Nineties Friday - 2 Unlimited Memories

NinetiesFriday 2 Unlimited.png

Back for a Nineties Friday post

A cool initiative started by @geneeverett just a few weeks ago. I missed the first week or maybe weeks and had a list of ideas to post about for several weeks straight. Sadly, I could not make it last week as I was not in a writing mood at all half of the week. This time I'd almost miss it again after having a horrible Wednesday and being very ill, today (it's close to midnight so still officially Thursday) I felt so weak and low on energy that I needed today to recover mostly. Some food and resting did the trick thankfully. Tomorrow I need to dedicate my time to building the new website for my boyfriend while I don't want to miss this week's Nineties Friday, therefore I will publish it before I head to bed, lol.

This week's topic: 2 Unlimited

Last time I shared some Twenty 4 Seven tunes after seeing the 90's documentary series on the Dutch tv. I hoped there would be more episodes than I already saw, but I haven't bumped on them yet so I guess it's just these four. Either way, 2 Unlimited is the one I have the best memories from out of the 4. Therefore this week I will check out their hits and some memories I have from that period.

The area where I grew up

We had a shopping mall, which is super tiny compared to all the malls nowadays, within walking distance of the home where I grew up. That area wasn't the best part of our city, but it surely was the best part of that area. Especially when you had the little mall and an indoor public pool within 5 minutes walking distance you could say it wasn't a bad spot to live. I never liked living in a flat though, but it was what it was, I can consider myself lucky that I grew up in a big flat rather than a tiny one being an only child.

Record store and headphones

I remember that our mall had this record store with cd's and cd singles you could buy and they had like 10 (maybe less, I'm not sure) spots where you could listen to the cd's or singles to know if you wanted to buy them. I don't remember the CD store's name but it was a big company during my childhood. I've always loved music so I was there quite often and even though I was still very young and only had some pocket money, I came to check out the newest singles a lot.

My very first CD single

I remember that I went to the record store with my older cousin who was all fan of 2 Unlimited. I knew their "No Limit" song from TV but wasn't such a fan yet until he took me there to buy the single and I copied his idea with my pocket money so both of us came home with the 2 Unlimited single - No Limit. I was just 9 years old at the time.

From the first moment I heard Anita Doth sing, I loved everything about it. And it surely helped that she and Ray Slijngaard were a great couple. Both attractive young people who had chemistry for sure. I remember that I always thought they'd end up together as a real couple.

2 Unlimited greatest hits

I could overload you with tons of Youtube links but I found this one where you can listen and watch 2 Unlimited's greatest hits all in one video instead:

Throughout the years I remember that I loved most of their songs as they had a catchy vibe and those two surely were easy on the eyes lol.

2 Unlimited History

As the documentary I watched was a few weeks ago while still a bit low on energy, I will refer you to this Wikipedia to learn more about the rise and fall of the 2 Unlimited empire. I personally didn't know what happened between these two to be honest and I also never knew that it all started with two Belgian producers/songwriters to begin with. You can read the whole story here.

Do you remember them?

I know they had big hits but I wonder what my US friends here think of them, do you also remember them from the 90's or weren't they such a big deal in your part of the world as they were on our little end of Europe at the time? It amazes me to read that these bands from so many years ago, hits long gone can still perform until this very day and make money from that.

This was my #NinetiesFriday entry for the week, officially Friday started because it's 5 minutes past midnight in my end of the world, with that said, good night and wishing you a good FriYay :)

Check out @geneeverett's post later today to join the NinetiesFriday initiative if you have something to share yourself, you can win some HSBI too!

I love pinball!! xD

After that last #ninetiesfriday post of yours, I was a bit hesitant to click that play button in this one. However, once I heard the chorus of this song I immediately recognized it. It's just one of those tunes I've heard along the way. It was probably on the radio as I never owned any music by these folks.

The funny thing is, I always thought the chorus was, "let's go live it", instead of, "there's no limit" ¯\(ツ)

Hope you get back to full health and feeling good soon.

I remember them from these Jock Jam CD compilations I got as Christmas gifts. This is definitely what #NinetiesFriday is about! That nostalgia 🙌

Haha, I read this yesterday already but went straight to bed after hitting publish. Today I didn't spent much time behind the screen but I can tell you your comment made me laugh because I remember your reply the last time :)

I told you I started with the worst one :)

About the text, I'm pretty sure that at least half of the people I've known in my life have always been just saying some words when singing along. Over the years I learned that it was quite rare to know most lyrics by heart the way I remember them. I never realised this in my younger years, haha.

I'm fully ok since this afternoon, thank you :)

I remember these songs! They were on these Jock Jam compilation CD’s I had as a kid. No limit was and a song called Twilight Zone was on another volume. Wasn’t really my kinda music but I was so young and only had CD’s relatives gave me so I played these tunes a very much!

Yeah Twilight Zone was another famous one for sure. They are Dutch and come from Belgium producers so for us this was a big thing in the 90s having them become so famous ..

I wasn't into the punk rock thing myself lol, closest thing is probably No Doubt :) but on top of that I also don't recognise many of these videos you and @thebighigg shared either.. Maybe it's because I"m from Holland lol

Have some Nineties !PIZZA on me (ran out of PIMP already sorry)

They were a big deal over here but I think in the US overall there must have been much more choice of music compared to our little corner in Europe :)

I was able to rest up yesterday and this morning my boyfriend still brought the little one to school because I already felt in the evening that it was possible that I was not 100% yet this morning. But by the time it was pick up time, I was 100% ok so all is well now, thanks!

We just came back from the dentist which surprisingly was a good experience for once!

How have you been?

Not too bad, just a sore back at the moment! I'm glad the dentist was a good experience and that you're feeling better!

Nothing fun about a sore back though! Good to read you're doing ok besides the sore back.

And yes, that was so needed to have a good experience.. next week new appointment for the check up (this was cleaning)

It's hard to find a good dentist that cost a fortune!

So true.. sadly we were mislead by the previous dentist who claimed to be part of the network of our insurance and covering some stuff. Turned out it was only the check that was covered while all the rest cost a fortune. Even for the little girl!

Therefore we decided to go to the clinic that IS part of the health insurance and the experience was so much better (the insurance self is horrible to deal with) and now I have a list what the costs are so it's all clear in advance as well.

Glad we finally discovered that this was the way to go, sadly too me almost 2 years lol.

How have you been so far?

Not too bad, just resting up the back right now. I'm glad you finally have a dentist who can help out without costing a fortune!

That's good, sometimes you just need to rest.. we will not be doing much this weekend .. at least not go anywhere. I've been ill several days this week and want to take the weekend to sit behind a proper desk and get some things sorted such as the website etc.. Otherwise I will regret it on Monday because my desk/chair sucks lol. I tried to do it on Friday and could not sit there any longer.. Changing my working hours to get shit done now lol...
