"Somewhere over the Rainbow" in Austin with Roger Edington

Hey Hivers!

We’re kicking off our second month on the road in the USA, and we’re beyond excited to be back in Texas for the first time since 2019! Texas was a huge part of our 2018-2019 tours, and it always felt like we had an incredible, loyal following here. Skipping Texas in 2023 on our first post-pandemic tour was tough, but being back now, we’re reminded of everything we love about this place.

Our first show in Houston was unforgettable—a boot-stomping, whooping-and-cheering kind of night with so many familiar faces and old friends. It was the perfect welcome back!

After a couple of days in Houston, we hit the road west toward Austin (and yes, we made a stop at Buc-ee’s!). Here, we reunited with two longtime Troublemakers, Vic and Julie, who hosted us back in 2019 when we were here for SXSW. Julie’s father, Roger, is a renowned pedal steel guitarist, a legend on the Texas country scene who’s played with some true icons. Back in 2019, Julie had this mischievous idea that we should all jam together, and this time… we made it happen!

Yesterday afternoon, we spent hours with Roger, talking music and jamming in his living room. Roger shared some incredible traditional tunes on his pedal steel guitar, and we even got him to jam with us on Super Bloom (you can catch that reel on our social media!). But one of the best moments was an impromptu rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow that just felt pure and magical. Stefanie filmed the whole thing, and we’re excited to share this raw, unedited video with you here.

Roger’s a rare talent and a beautiful soul. Despite coming from different musical backgrounds and generations, we had an absolute blast playing together, finding common ground through the music. This is what it’s all about—connections that transcend time and style, the joy of playing and sharing.

Thank you for listening and sharing in this moment!
