Floor On Fire: Battle of the Styles through Unity
Art often speaks loudest when words fall short.
This weekend was truly remarkable—the 10th Anniversary of Floor on Fire at Dresden’s Hellerau Theatre. An event the world needs more of.
Dancers from across disciplines were thrown together moments before stepping on stage, battling it out in a format where the winning teams absorbed new dancers as the night unfolded. What we witnessed was nothing less than powerful: artists from different cultures, backgrounds, and styles building bridges in real time.
As the musicians for the event, we were honored to bring a special guest performer each night—Luna on the hurdy-gurdy and Ingo on the cello. With just one afternoon to prepare, we crafted a set designed to challenge the dancers and push their creative boundaries.
What unfolded onstage each evening was nothing short of magic.
One of the judges said, “I’m looking for the teams that show the strongest connection and dance with love. We need more love.”
And they were right.
What we witnessed was a reminder: no matter where we come from, when we come together in harmony, we are capable of extraordinary things. We hold an immense power—one that can divide and destroy, or unite and uplift.
In Dresden this past weekend, we chose unity. Musicians, dancers, moderators, and crowd alike came together. It was a moment of pure beauty—and a message the world urgently needs to hear.
Flames don’t only destroy—they create.
The dance floor was set ablaze, and what was forged inspired us all to work together toward a brighter future.
That sounds like a fun event. My band has played for swing dancers and it brings some pressure as you want them to feel motivated. I know your music gets feet moving.
Yea it was super interesting! We played a lot of music that was not our normal "style". Did everything we could to challenge them, change up genre. Was fun! We are hoping to take this event on the road more frequently in the future.
