DRESDANCE at the Stattsoperetta: Bringing the Spirit of Street art to the Opera House
What a night! Yesterday, we had the immense honor of performing Break the Folk as part of DRESDANCE at the Staatsoperette Dresden — an evening that brought together the full spectrum of Dresden’s vibrant and diverse dance scene.
From street dance to ballet, from experimental movement to musical theater — DRESDANCE is a bold celebration of what makes Dresden’s dance landscape so unique. For the first time, it united ensembles like the Semperoper Ballett, Landesbühnen Sachsen, Palucca Hochschule, TanzNetzDresden, and more, all under one roof — a symbolic gesture of collaboration, artistic exchange, and shared future.
To be part of this historic moment alongside our longtime collaborators The Saxonz was something truly special. Together, we brought our interdisciplinary project Break the Folk to life — a show born from the streets and grown through festival stages across Europe. Since our first collaboration in April 2023 at Festspielhaus Hellerau, we’ve proven that folk and breakdance aren’t opposites — they’re beautifully complementary. We’ve built a new kind of performance space: one that dissolves the lines between tradition and modernity, city and countryside, movement and melody.
At the Staatsoperette, a venue that inherently challenges artistic boundaries and celebrates diversity, this collaboration found the perfect home. In the spirit of DRESDANCE, we stood together with some of the most innovative voices in the scene, contributing our voice to the powerful message of unity, evolution, and creative courage.
Thank you to everyone who made this moment possible — and to you, our Patreon family, for being part of this incredible journey. Stay tuned for more video footage of this unforgettable evening.
I want to give a special shoutout and thanks to @lalalopophoto for capturing these photos of our performance! She has been very supportive of our group over the years and I'm very happy that she has taken up a presence here on Hive! If you are a lover of photography and a supporter of the arts, then be sure to follow her work here!
You're really getting to play some fun events. We'll actually be in Dresden in a few weeks. Not been before, so looking forward to exploring.
When will you be here? There's a lot going on here these days. Great events. We've been getting really involved with the dance scene as you've seen.
We'll be there in 3 weeks for a couple of days. Also going to Leipzig before meeting family in Magdeburg for Easter. I've not seen too much of eastern Germany.
