music - a diversion to comfort music
hello fellow hivians .... wassup??? so airtickets booked for a trip back to africa. still quite a while before we escapulate from this salubrious domain for a period of three weeks.... but i have already entered a team in a fairly lucrative bowls classic for while i am there. damn, i miss my lawn bowls and my bowls family and friends. great community.
the original and my all time favorite version of a much covered song....
again, gave me strength during challenging times in my youth... along with countless other tunes... {thinks...'hmmmm, maybe do a few more here'}
okay, a change of direction... was going to do with this past week and our upcoming trip... but ... let's go with the flow.
john denver was always there for me... simple easy stuff that a 12 and 13, 14 year old could listen to understand the values. again, this was 'comfort' music.... the rest of the time when feeling fine it was black sabbath, led zeppelin, bad company, uriah heep et al !!
right near the top.... young adult just shipped into the military to go fight a border war ... this lady (along with leonard cohen) was part of my sanity,,,, please welcome...
carole king ....
while listening to carole i was thinking about what used to be on the turntable on my old valve set gramophone... and i got gooseflesh when i remembered one of the tracks i used to listen to after arriving home from school to an empty house... and needing to start household chores, to get done before my father arrived home at four o'clock...
i decided to spare my millions of readers (and hopefully listeners) the entire choral symphony... but i used to put the piece on as loud as the technology of the time would allow...while going about my chores.... sanity indeed. just love that entire symphony.
thanks for stopping by , stay safe, stay free and make 2023 a year where you apply your mind and critical , common sense thought.
Oh man - full on Proustian Rush from 'Leaving on a Jet Plane'. I've just checked and it charted in the UK in 1970 - I was 3. It must have seeped into my toddler head somehow. It certainly reminds me of being a child when I hear it now.
I once did a Spotify playlist of songs that reminded me of childhood - but before I was really into music. Music that obviously made an impression and stuck with me - and I can't believe that LoaJP was not on it. Fixing that now... 😉
Thanks for posting and giving me that little nostalgia moment...
hey gribbles, thanks for stopping by.... nice to see a new name. to my mind this place has been a bit 'suburban' recently... sort of know your neighbour stuff.
Yeah, music to my mind is life personified... it is a sort of 'life' statement similar to pure poetry...
My pleasure - I've been around on hive for a bit, but quite quiet recently.
I know what you mean - it certainly acts as a journal alongside life - recording and reminding you of times, events, people...
Don't they do lawn bowls in Italy?
May as well do something fun on your holiday and catch up with everyone while you're back :D
Believe it or not.... no lawn bowls, indoor bowls or anyting here .... lay on beach in tiny white speedo with gold chains and bracelets... the full sum of their sport after the age of 50.
John Denver: Didnt hear him for a really long time.
Peter pal and Mary: I do like, didn't know them.
Beethoven: Massive!
South Africa? End of Europe (well, Italy) trip? Or just an intermezzo to catch up with family and friends?
My wife's first grandchild due in April... so she want to visit. I took the opportunity to put together a team to play in a Bowls Classic tournament. Only three weeks...
How are things with you? And are you in Holland?
Owww you are coming back!?
Here all good, trying to get a bit more active on HIVE, I mean out in the open, with posts and all 😉
And yea, am in NL, The Netherlands, Holland 🎶
it is our plan to bicycle across NL in the not too distant future. the when will definitely be tied to the crypto market cycle. i am trusting that @edje will be able to point me in the direction of a good concert or two that i can 'coincide on purpose' with our travels.
CERTAINLY I can help you to find some places where good (or at least interesting) music shows are happening! 🙇
Looking forward to you coming to NL. Let me know when it happens, and I'll gonna help where I can.
NJOY SA in the mean time 🎶 😉
Thanks, I will definitely let you know our itinerary. At this stage I would like to use a standard pedal bike but my lady is keen on an e-bike {shrug}
You can combine both? Your wife doesn't have to do anything, while you have to pedal hard to keep up with the 25km/hrs see will go {LOL} But I can advise you, get an electrical one. If you get the right one, you can set the support from the electric engine. If need to be, you switch it off, so it's back to physical power to get moving. Not sure if rental e-bikes have such a feature, but my VanMoof is fully configurable. I can tell it to give me support till eg 15 km/hrs. I can tell it to support only when a sudden change in resistance (ie from flat to hill up). Am sure I have more configuration settings who much and when to get support from the electrical engine and when not. But even without all these settings, if I take support up to 25 km/hrs, I can go faster, but pure on manual power then. Just came home from the office and went 27-28 km/hrs most of the time. No electricity was used, pure manual. Though a bit tired now hahahahaha
Must admit, maybe more lightweight bikes around when going full manual, I mean better comfort for the physical horse method in traditional bikes, but it's a choice. No e0bike, no support at any given time. But it also depends on how many km you want to bike through my country. Anyways, a decision for you to make. If I can be of any help, let me know ;)
