New BlockTunes Hive Front End Is Down Due For A Week Due To Hive Engine Issue - RANT POST

splinterlands.jpeg

I understand that in this industry things happen, but when you spend a couple of thousand dollars to get a brand new front end set up on a service, you expect it to work for more than a couple of days. After getting the new @blocktunes outpost setup and paying a boatload of money, being all excited, and planning an entire week's worth of content work around it, the servers go down with no backups. I just want to make sure I am not the one looking like the idiot here... I have no control over this situation, and if you can't tell, I am pretty hot about it. Sure call me a Kyle or Karen, I really don't care.

Again, I understand that things happen, but when I reached out to the developer for the Hive Engine team that handles the outpost development (I will keep them anonymous at this time), I was treated like complete garbage, and my concerns over just launching this expensive site that I am planning an entire marketing campaign around are of no concern of theirs and I was talked to like I didn't matter at all. What shocked me was that I have had many pleasant encounters with this person prior, so I was taken aback when my concerns were basically nulled. Now maybe he was having a bad day, but that's no excuse to talk to your customers like that, especially when the problem is on your end!

When I asked why there wasn't an announcement, I was told,"what difference would it make?" and "Do you not know now?"... REALLY??? This is my business that you are screwing over here because of your company's negligence!

That response was completely unprofessional. When I was at Apple, I would have gotten slammed for talking to a customer like that, which to the Hive Engine team, is what I am, a customer. So I would love @aggroed to reach out to me so we can discuss the complete lack of customer service skills that his employees have. But, with the way he has run the Hive Engine business so far, it doesn't seem like he cares. I am sure that with the revenue from Splinterlands alone, you can afford to have every server backed up and have enough staff to manage the community and give proper announcements to said community, not to mention BUSINESS OWNERS on why their site isn't working properly! If not, you are doing something wrong, or just being extremely greedy. So please reach out and we can have a chat so we can get down to the bottom of the issue. Please change my mind and opinion of the way your business is run.

Let's not get into all of the deposit and withdrawal issues that apparently only one person in the entire world knows how to handle, and he goes on vacation more than any one person I have ever seen... Anytime things like this happen, there is very little response from the team so people are left to their own thoughts, which when you are dealing with money, is a very serious thing. The Discord server will be going nuts and there will not be anyone there to try and manage the community or set any kind of expectations, and when someone finally responds, they usually have some kind of sarcastic remark or are pretty much useless in helping. We only learn about things after the fact. This needs to change, and very soon.

I have 3 front ends on this platform (That's several thousands of dollars spent), run a witness node (actually one of the first, ran a testnet node), and spend every day trying to bring people to this platform, helped other tribes get started, and so on, so I expect to be treated with a bit more respect by the Hive Engine team than I have.

I do on that note want to thank @eonwarped for actually apologizing for the issue after my first unfortunate interaction with the other person and giving me an explanation, but it still doesn't change the fact that these servers should be kept up to date and backed up at all times. It may seem like a small thing to them, but to us who are trying to actually build businesses, this is a kick in the gut. A week down is not acceptable.

End of rant...

Until next time...

Well, sometimes it seems like decentralization has its... weaknesses, one of which might be that a lot of folks just do their own things, their own way, on their own schedule. It's almost like people conveniently forget the "organization" part of DAO! 🤣

There is no real decentralization that I am finding. Hive Engine is highly centralized, they are a company, so they should treat their customers with respect and not say things like "well it won't help it go live" when I ask why they haven't announced the issue. That kind of response was extremely childish and honestly, if I were face to face with this person and they took this tone with me, they would have gotten to know the back of my hand real quick.

ugh.. If it's not one thing it's another with hive-engine... Seems like every other week they have some issue or another be it witness issues or general website issues.

hive-engine could be something super amazing if they would just get their shit together and actually run it properly.

Glad I stumbled upon this Rant, had a similar one myself a few weeks back, didn't bother posting it as I thought what's the point...

Here are some of the awesome replies I got from the above-mentioned "dev"... oh and, "Just stop your entitlement!"

"Most owners understand it will fail"... I guess that's why you purchased the service also?

Did you get a reply from aggroed? His reply to me was "run it yourself if you're not happy"...

"decentralisation" at its best.

But I guess, it showed us some of the weaknesses in the system, We were already in the process of changing things to our own servers. We have now moved to our own Node, and soon API. Hopefully, this will make our service better...maybe we can sell it all to you for some BEE? LOL!
