1991 Mexico Gold Libertad and some Rocking Music from the 1990's

Friday is once again upon us and the weekend is soon to arrive! I hope you all have had a good week so far, at least I can say mine was fairly productive. I still have several projects to finish up later today, but for the most part my week is pretty much over. Does anyone have any big plans coming up for this weekend? I plan to stay close to home and just enjoy a nice quiet weekend...

One thing that I really enjoy about posting on Fridays is that I typically have a theme already planned out in advance. That theme is Nineties Friday, an initiative started by @geneeverett , and is a day you can share just about anything from the 1990's. He's also adapted it to be Four Tune Friday as well, so if you prefer that angle you can feel free! There are no prizes, just pure fun!

An interesting event took place in 1991 in Mexico City, Mexico at the Mexican Mint. They had been producing gold Libertad rounds since 1981 but they were minted in 90% gold. In 1991 they made the switch to pure .999 gold, one full Troy ounce of it. They have been great sellers ever since, and those produced today sell out almost as fast as they are produced. The design has changed since then, but here is the 1991 gold Libertad round is all of it's glory!

From APMEX.com

This gold beauty is highly sought after and not all that easy to find. Only 109,193 were minted in the one Troy ounce variety, it may not sound like a small number, but being the first year it was made in pure gold makes it a key collectible. I don't have one, but I would love to own one of these historic gold works of art. They don't come up for sale very often, and with gold prices as high as they are they don't come cheap.

Gold is at $4,296 per Troy ounce as of the time of writing. Just look at the prices over this year alone!

Will gold prices come back down? Probably at some point, but it may not be a huge drop. I think high prices of the precious metals may be here to stay...

Now for some music from the decade!

The Black Crowes

Formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1984 this southern rock band took several years to secure a recording contract in 1989. In 1990 they released their debut album Shake Your Money Maker and quickly became a huge success. One cover song they used on the album really generated interest in the band, that was "Hard to Handle. Originally written in 1968 by soul singer Otis Redding, The Black Crowes really made it their own, here's "Hard to Handle":

Halloween is slowly getting closer so I have to include some more Zombie music!

Rob Zombie

After the success his band White Zombie experienced in the early 1990's, Rob decided it was time to go solo. He had always been a zombie fanatic since he was a child having seen almost every zombie film every made, among his favorites were White Zombie from 1938. Considered the first zombie movie ever made, it also inspired the name of his band! In 1998 he released his first solo album Hellbilly Deluxe that spawned several huge hit songs for the artist. One of them being "Superbeast":

Lit

This rock band was formed in Orange County, California in 1988. A place I'm rather fond of now that I've lived here for so many years. After years of lineup and band name changes they finally settled on Lit in 1996. In 1997 their debut album Tripping the Light Fantastic failed to do sell very well, however, their sophomore effort A Place in the Sun fared much better reaching number 31 on the Billboard 200 chart. It was fueled by the big hit song "My Own Worst Enemy":

Having lived most of the 1990's in South America and the Spanish speaking Caribbean, I typically like to include something in Spanish from the decade as well.

Shakira

I've been a huge Shakira fan ever since the release of her third album Pies Descalzos (Bare Feet) in 1995. Over the last several years I've really not much cared for her new music, but her material from the late 90's and 2000's was great stuff. This song was the lead song off of her big hit album Pies Descalzos, long before she became the internationally famed blonde bombshell. Here's "Pies Descalzos":

That will wrap up my post for this #ninetiesfriday . I do hope you enjoyed it and feel free to jump in and share as well if you are so inspired! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and as always thank you for all of your support. It really is deeply appreciated. Have a great weekend everyone!

I love the Libertads. I have a bunch in silver almost the entire series. But in gold I only have two 1/4 oz ones.

Gold is expensive... I have a lot of the silver ones too, I do have some gold ones I picked up years ago when gold was cheap. The good old days!

I would also like one of these beauties. Gold nowadays seems a bit more subtle. Let me explain: This gold looks more like gold, the color is stronger. There are gold jewels that make us wonder if they are fake or not, they have a gold plating, etc., but this looks like it is legitimate gold. I don't have many objects made of this metal, but I have seen a lot of jewels.
I wish you a happy weekend; according to what I have read, it will be pleasant and relaxing.

Beautiful gold Libertad !👍😊
I do not have one of these either, I wish I did, now that prices are running up, I probably won’t stack one…..
I chose instead to stack the 50 Peso Gold instead another beautiful Mexican coin!🤗

I do too, it makes them more special now that they don't make them like they use to!

Crypto will go back up, just a matter of time! Gold and precious metals are likely to stay up for the foreseeable future though!

That Black Crowes greatest hits album is one of the regular playlists in my office. I think there was a point I was listening to it all the way through at least once per day.
