Music as Therapy: Singing with Intention and Understanding.

One thing is knowing how to sing, and another thing is going out of your way to learn how to sing, but one thing I believe in is that both of them have an end product, which is being able to sing. You see, life has now just gotten beyond you, just singing without understanding what you claim to sing. Singing doesn't just come out because you can sing or because you want to sing. Singing is from within, and it is from the deepest part of our soul, and it also passes a message to everyone that listens to it.

I could remember some times past when someone said music is therapeutic to the soul. If music is truly therapeutic, just like everyone claims it is, then it is not meant for everyone, or it can also be meant for everyone but just for those that can key in to that realm of passing a message to the listeners and make them understand what it truly means to listen to a song and also to sing. Sometimes I listen to a song, and at first, when I listen to it, I might not really understand what it is the song is saying, but later on I will understand.

Why did that happen that way? A simple answer is that at that time I was listening to that music; what was my intention? What do I want to hear from the music I am listening to, and what message am I expected to get from the music I want to listen to? Well, just like I said earlier, there are different moods, and also there are songs that fit each mood. So, as a musician, it is also an additional work for you to do also to understand music and moods. Is your music giving the energy of vibe, or is your music a song that can console people in times of crisis?

Why I am saying this at this time is that I know lots of us love music; also, some love music just to sing to it alone, and some love music just for the beat. That is normal also; some might not even know how to sing but still love music regardless of what category we might be in. The best approach is that you do what's best for you. Music is life, and I am happy that I knew about it from my younger days.

Now let's do a backtrack to the past when we have some legendary music. Sometimes I listen to some old songs, and I just imagine what those people might have thought about before going into the studio to cook a song like that. The simplicity and the orderliness of the song will make me listen to it every time, and that's why we call those songs evergreen because they can never die, and people will keep revisiting them time after time. On a final note, I will just give a word of advice to the new and upcoming musicians out there: always ensure that they do what's best for people to hear and appreciate them for. Life is very complicated already, and music is one of the ways we use to get our sanity back. We should always do something that will help people and make music continue to grow.
