🇪🇸 ~ Antes de empezar a hablar de esta película live-action quiero compartir contigo querido lector que soy una fan de CLAMP desde que era una niña, asi que puedes leer con confianza bajo la salvedad que esta es la apreciación y opiniones de alguien que conoce la obra original de xxxHOLIC y ama profundamente a los personajes y su historia.
🇺🇸 ~ Before I start talking about this live-action film, I want to share with you, dear reader, that I have been a fan of CLAMP since I was a child, so you can read with confidence, bearing in mind that this is the assessment and opinion of someone who knows the original work of xxxHOLIC and deeply loves the characters and their story.
Primero voy a hablar puramente de la película y después explicaré algunas diferencias y comparaciones interesantes en relación a la versión manga.
Aviso que esta nota estará repleta de SPOILERS tanto de la película como del manga original así que este es tu "CHECK-POINT" para cerrar la ventana, ir a ver la película, y luego volver aquí por algunas respuestas.
First, I'm going to talk purely about the movie, and then I'll explain some interesting differences and comparisons with the manga version.
Please note that this review will be full of SPOILERS for both the movie and the original manga, so this is your “CHECK-POINT” to close the window, go see the movie, and then come back here for some answers.

Kimihiro Watanuki es un joven con ojos muy especiales que le permiten ver seres sobrenaturales, esto lo considera una maldición porque así como el los ve a ellos, ellos tambien pueden verlo a él, lo que hace que toda clase de entidades (ayakashis) lo acosen todos los días sin importar dónde se encuentre o con quien esté. Y así nos presentan a este personaje, corriendo por las calles de Tokio escapando de una masa gigante de humo negro, y viendo las cargas negativas de otros seres humanos en su persecución.
Kimihiro Watanuki is a young man with very special eyes that allow him to see supernatural beings. He considers this a curse because just as he can see them, they can also see him, which means that all kinds of entities (ayakashis) harass him every day, no matter where he is or who he is with. And so we are introduced to this character, running through the streets of Tokyo, escaping from a giant mass of black smoke and seeing the negative charges of other human beings in pursuit.

One night, when he decides he no longer wants to exist in this way, he climbs to the roof of a tall building to commit suicide, but before jumping, a spectral butterfly, silver and translucent crimson in color, catches his attention and leads him to a magnificently decorated place, where he is welcomed by two characters who act almost as reflections of each other (Maru and Moro), calling him “customer.”
Tras las cortinas, esta Ichihara Yuuko, "La Bruja Dimensional". Watanuki ha llegado a lo que ella llama "una tienda de los deseos", un lugar que solo se muestra ante aquellos que tienen un deseo por cumplir, y donde ella le explica que cada deseo es cumplido pagando un precio equivalente al valor de ese deseo.
Behind the curtains is Ichihara Yuuko, “The Dimensional Witch.” Watanuki has arrived at what she calls “a wish shop,” a place that only appears to those who have a wish to fulfill, and where she explains that each wish is granted by paying a price equivalent to the value of that wish.
Yuuko lee la fortuna de Watanuki y todo lo que dice es acertado (que siempre esta huyendo, y que busca un lugar al que pertenecer), después pregunta cuál es el deseo de Watanuki, que al parecer es que sus ojos ya no tengan la capacidad "de ver cosas extrañas", pero el precio por cumplir ese deseo sería "lo mas preciado para Watanuki", que él mismo no sabe decir qué es. Por eso Yuuko le ofrece quedarse en la tienda como "servidumbre", negándose a dejarlo ir porque este encuentro es parte del destino de ambos y por ende, inevitable.
Yuuko reads Watanuki's fortune and everything she says is accurate (that he is always running away and looking for a place to belong). She then asks Watanuki what his wish is, which appears to be that his eyes no longer have the ability to “see strange things,” but the price for fulfilling that wish would be “the most precious thing to Watanuki,” which he himself cannot say what it is. That is why Yuuko offers him to stay in the shop as a “servant,” refusing to let him go because this encounter is part of both their destinies and therefore inevitable.
A partir de entonces Waranuki comienza a vivir dentro de la tienda y a hacer los que haceres como la limpieza y la cocina (en lo que es muy bueno), también presencia las "transacciones" que realiza Yuuko, junto a ver toda la variedad de seres humanos y criaturas que acuden a su tienda para sellar estos "intercambios"; a partir de este momento las cosas comienzan a mejorar para él. En el colegio hace amistad "accidental" con dos personajes muy especiales, Shizuka Doumeki y Himawari Kunogi, y por primera vez en su vida experimenta el anhelo de vivir y disfrutar esos simples, felices y divertidos momentos gracias a ellos, a su compañía. Watanuki quiere vivir.
From then on, Waranuki begins to live in the shop and do chores such as cleaning and cooking (which he is very good at). He also witnesses the “transactions” that Yuuko carries out, as well as seeing the variety of humans and creatures who come to her shop to seal these “exchanges.” From this moment on, things begin to improve for him. At school, he “accidentally” befriends two very special characters, Shizuka Doumeki and Himawari Kunogi, and for the first time in his life, he experiences the desire to live and enjoy those simple, happy, and fun moments thanks to them and their company. Watanuki wants to live.

La primera, es el INCREIBLE TRABAJO DE DECORACIÓN que hizo la producción, cada sala de la tienda es UNA OBRA DE ARTE y hace justicia dignamente a los hermosos escenarios dibujados por CLAMP en el manga; se nota que quienes se encargaron de esa apartado estudiaron las viñetas de la tienda con cuidado para lograr esa atmosfera mística, oscura, decadente y lujosa.
At this point, we will pause the film's plot and make special mention of three things:
The first is the AMAZING DECORATION WORK done by the production team. Each room in the store is a WORK OF ART and does justice to the beautiful settings drawn by CLAMP in the manga. It is clear that those in charge of this aspect studied the store's vignettes carefully to achieve that mystical, dark, decadent, and luxurious atmosphere.
La segunda son LOS ATUENDOS DE YUUKO, ha sido increible como cada atuendo que luce la actriz que interpreta a "La Bruja Dimensional" son referencias directas del manga. Todos los atuendos que veras en la película SON CANON, y un aspecto que cuando anunciaron esta producción todos los fans nos preguntamos cómo resolverían, porque los conjuntos de Yuuko a través de todo el manga son impresionantes y maximalistas, especialmente en los decorados y joyas.
The second is YUUKO'S OUTFITS. It's been incredible how every outfit worn by the actress who plays “The Dimensional Witch” is a direct reference to the manga. All the outfits you'll see in the film ARE CANON, and when this production was announced, all the fans wondered how they would resolve this, because Yuuko's outfits throughout the manga are impressive and maximalist, especially in terms of the sets and jewelry.
La tercera cosa por mencionar es que para esta película crearon a un personaje que no existe en el universo original de xxxHOLiC, su nombre es Akagumo y podemos conseguir una ilustración de él hecha por las mismas CLAMP; me sorprendió verlo en la película porque efectivamente no recuerdo haberlo visto ni en el manga ni en la adaptación del anime o las OVAS.
The third thing worth mentioning is that for this film, they created a character that does not exist in the original xxxHOLiC universe. His name is Akagumo, and we can find an illustration of him made by CLAMP themselves. I was surprised to see him in the film because I don't remember seeing him in the manga, the anime adaptation, or the OVAs.
Continuando con los acontecimientos de la película, no todo es color rosa en la vida de Watanuki ya que sin malas intensiones termina guiando a un personaje peligroso al santuario de la familia de Doumeki (que son un linaje de exorcistas) donde también está Himawari. Gracias a eso, conocemos algo del pasado de Himawari y la maldición que carga sobre sus hombros, se trata de que en toda su vida nunca será capaz de conocer la verdadera felicidad, y que la desgracia la perseguirá para siempre y afectará de igual modo de forma mortal a los que se acerquen a ella, lo que la hace llevar una vida solitaria (muy parecida a Watanuki en este aspecto).
Continuing with the events of the film, not everything is rosy in Watanuki's life, as he unwittingly ends up leading a dangerous character to the sanctuary of Doumeki's family (who are a line of exorcists), where Himawari is also staying. Thanks to this, we learn something about Himawari's past and the curse she carries on her shoulders: that she will never be able to know true happiness in her entire life, and that misfortune will haunt her forever and similarly affect those who come close to her in a deadly way, which makes her lead a lonely life (very similar to Watanuki in this respect).
Watanuki descubre las dimensiones de la maldición que acompaña a Himawari cuando se da cuenta que ella lo evita cuando se encuentra sola, y que el grupo de amigos solo consigue estar juntos cuando Doumeki esta presente, quien por su ascendencia y sangre parece anular temporalmente la mala suerte de Himawari sobre los demas. Watanuki corre hasta Yuuko para pedirle ayuda, dispuesto a pagar cualquier precio para liberar a su amiga de esa carga, pero Yuuko se niega pues el precio por cambiar el destino de Himawari es demasiado alto.
Watanuki discovers the extent of the curse that accompanies Himawari when he realizes that she avoids him when she is alone, and that the group of friends can only be together when Doumeki is present, who, due to his ancestry and blood, seems to temporarily nullify Himawari's bad luck on others. Watanuki runs to Yuuko to ask for help, willing to pay any price to free his friend from this burden, but Yuuko refuses because the price for changing Himawari's fate is too high.

Aquí vemos el efecto de la maldición de Himawari sobre los que tratan de acercarse a ella, y es que Watanuki al tocarla es levantado del suelo y lanzado hacia el vacío entre las escaleras de su colegio, cayendo en una pila de vidrios y sufriendo lesiones mortales. Más adelante nos explicaran que su vida es salvada por sus 2 amigos, que lo llevaron en brazos a la tienda de Yuuko; ahora Doumeki parece haber dado la magia o la visión de uno de sus ojos, y Himawari carga en su cuerpo las cicatrices del accidente de Watanuki como pago por salvar la vida de su amigo (cabe mencionar que mas adelante Himawari le dice que nunca vive demasiado tiempo en un solo lugar, y que ha decido irse de la ciudad).
Here we see the effect of Himawari's curse on those who try to get close to her. When Watanuki touches her, he is lifted off the ground and thrown into the void between the stairs of his school, falling onto a pile of glass and suffering fatal injuries. Later on, we learn that his life is saved by his two friends, who carry him in their arms to Yuuko's shop. Now Doumeki seems to have given up the magic or vision in one of his eyes, and Himawari bears the scars of Watanuki's accident on her body as payment for saving her friend's life (it is worth mentioning that later on, Himawari tells him that she never lives too long in one place and that she has decided to leave the city).

Invadido por la culpa de que sus amigos hayan pagado un precio tan alto para salvarlo y por culpa de malos recuerdos (la muerte de su madre), Jorougumo (un poderoso espíritu araña) se le aparece y le ofrece cumplir su deseo, que en ese momento es vivir en un mundo donde nadie sea lastimado, y como precio por cumplirlo ella toma la magia de uno de sus ojos, que cambia de color; esta decisión lamentablemente hace que Watanuki quede atrapado en un bucle de tiempo o un "mundo anillo", en el 1er de Abril, su cumple años. Más adelante con ayuda de Yuuko que le regala 1 brazalete mágico, logra liberarse de este "mundo cómodo y seguro lleno de solo alegrías", mas su determinación de querer ir hacia un nuevo mañana.
Overcome with guilt that his friends paid such a high price to save him and haunted by bad memories (the death of his mother), Jorougumo (a powerful spider spirit) appears to him and offers to grant his wish, which at that moment is to live in a world where no one gets hurt. As the price for granting his wish, she takes the magic from one of his eyes, which changes color. Unfortunately, this decision traps Watanuki in a time loop or “ring world” on April 1, his birthday. Later, with the help of Yuuko, who gives him a magic bracelet, he manages to free himself from this “comfortable and safe world full of only joy,” but his determination to move toward a new tomorrow remains.
El desenlace de la película es confuso y de final abierto, con una "pelea final" contra Jorougumo que quiere devorar a Watanuki y al mismo tiempo liberar a los "ayakashi" antiguos que encerraron los antepasados de Doumeki en un recinto dentro de su templo. Con la magia de Yuuko para detenerlos cuando son liberados, Doumeki y Watanuki unen fuerzas (ambos de maneras distintas son portadores de magia) para lanzar una flecha "sagrada" y ayudan a Yuuko a apaciguar a estas entidades antiguas, que parecen regresar a otro plano, yéndose Yuuko con ellos, haciendo de Watanuki el nuevo dueño de "la tienda de los deseos".
The film's ending is confusing and open-ended, with a “final battle” against Jorougumo, who wants to devour Watanuki and at the same time free the ancient “ayakashi” that Doumeki's ancestors locked away in an enclosure inside their temple. With Yuuko's magic to stop them when they are released, Doumeki and Watanuki join forces (both in different ways are carriers of magic) to shoot a “sacred” arrow and help Yuuko appease these ancient entities, which seem to return to another plane, Yuuko leaving with them, making Watanuki the new owner of “the wish shop.”

✦ Why should you watch this movie? ✦
Lo primero que quiero decir es que xxxHOLiC es una obra que se conecta directamente con otros universos de CLAMP (como Card Captor Sakura o Tsubasa Reservoir of Chronicle) y que su adaptación a cabalidad es MUY DIFICIL porque para entender cosas vitales de la trama debes conocer esas otras historias, por eso para mi esta película es una adaptación mas que aceptable, la he disfrutado muchísimo y estoy realmente feliz de poderla disfrutar hoy.
The first thing I want to say is that xxxHOLiC is a work that connects directly with other CLAMP universes (such as Card Captor Sakura or Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle) and that adapting it fully is VERY DIFFICULT because in order to understand vital aspects of the plot, you need to be familiar with those other stories. That's why, for me, this film is a more than acceptable adaptation. I enjoyed it immensely and I'm really happy to be able to enjoy it today.
También quiero compartir algunas diferencias entre el guión de la película y el manga, comenzando con la manera en que Watanuki se encuentra con la "tienda de los deseos". En el manga Watanuki esta huyendo desesperadamente de un espíritu maligno y cuando cae al suelo aplastado por el, accidentalmente toca una pared y este ser desaparece: Lo que ha tocado es la tienda de Yuuko y asi es como comienza la historia.
I also want to share some differences between the movie script and the manga, starting with the way Watanuki encounters the “wish shop.” In the manga, Watanuki is desperately running away from an evil spirit, and when he falls to the ground, crushed by it, he accidentally touches a wall and the spirit disappears. What he has touched is Yuuko's shop, and that is how the story begins.
Otra cosa es el motivo por la que los ojos de Watanuki y Doumeki cambian a azul-amarillo, en el manga esto ocurre en los primeros capítulos y es un hecho que conecta a ambos personajes. Por cierto, Watanuki y Doumeki en el manga son BASTANTE cercanos aunque Watanuki lo considere una especie de rival al inicio de su amistad. Doumeki protege a Watanuki y lo salva de muchas situaciones, y (ALERTA DE SPOILER) es Doumeki y su descendencia quien sigue visitando a Watanuki cuando hereda la tienda de Yuuko, de la que ya no puede salir y se ha vuelvo "inmortal", Watanuki ya no envejece.
Another thing is the reason why Watanuki and Doumeki's eyes change to blue-yellow. In the manga, this happens in the first few chapters and is a fact that connects the two characters. By the way, Watanuki and Doumeki are QUITE close in the manga, even though Watanuki considers him a kind of rival at the beginning of their friendship. Doumeki protects Watanuki and saves him from many situations, and (SPOILER ALERT) it is Doumeki and his descendants who continue to visit Watanuki when he inherits Yuuko's shop, from which he can no longer leave and has become “immortal”; Watanuki no longer ages.
Y lo mas llamativo para mi, ha sido como abordaron la maldición de Himawari. En el manga, es verdad que esta es una maldición unida a su destino y nada puede cambiarla, entonces Watanuki en un sueño desea que Himawari no este sola, y así nace Tampopo, un pequeño pájaro 100% inmune a los efectos de su mala suerte, y es en presencia de Tampopo que Himawari y Watanuki pueden estar uno cerca del otro sin accidentes.
And what struck me most was how they dealt with Himawari's curse. In the manga, it's true that this curse is linked to her destiny and nothing can change it, so Watanuki wishes in a dream that Himawari won't be alone, and thus Tampopo is born, a small bird that is 100% immune to the effects of her bad luck. It is in Tampopo's presence that Himawari and Watanuki can be close to each other without accidents.
ホリック xxxHOLiC me ha encantado, tiene una duración de casi 2 horas con muchos escenarios "muy anime" y buenas caracterizaciones. Si te gusta el género de fantasía, la alta moda, los escenarios parecidos al cuarto de "Howl" y Japón la vas a disfrutar sin duda. Puntos extras por esa canción al final en los creditos, de la mano de "Sekai No owari" que captó muy bien la esencia del mundo mágico y rico de xxxHOLiC, y eso es mucho decir cuando en el anime tenemos temas inolvidables como 19 Sai y Nobody Knows.
I loved xxxHOLiC. It's almost two hours long, with lots of “very anime” scenes and great characterizations. If you like fantasy, high fashion, scenes reminiscent of Howl's moving castle, and Japan, you'll definitely enjoy it. Extra points for that song at the end of the credits, by Sekai No Owari, which perfectly captured the essence of the magical and rich world of xxxHOLiC, and that's saying a lot when anime has unforgettable songs like 19 Sai and Nobody Knows.
