🇪🇸 ~ ¿Te acuerdas del canal FoxKids?, en Latinoamérica fue sustituido por "Jetix" en 2004 y aunque la programación no cambió demasiado, la vibra era demasiado distinta y el sentimiento de pérdida fue muy real, porque era uno de los pocos canales donde transmitían anime y no recortaban los temas opening y endings que con tanta ilusión esperabas escuchar completos en canales nacionales, pero siempre cortaban en alguna parte, y cada vez que habían unos pocos segundos extras, era el tema de conversación principal en el colegio al día siguiente (era normal que entre compañeros nos compartiéramos notas en un cuaderno para comparar si habias entendido bien o mal esta o aquella parte de la canción).
🇺🇸 ~ Do you remember the channel FoxKids? in Latin America was replaced by "Jetix" in 2004 and although the programming didn't change too much, the vibe was too different and the feeling of loss was very real, because it was one of the few channels where they broadcasted anime and they didn't cut the opening and endings that you were so excited to hear complete on national channels, but they always cut somewhere, and every time there were a few extra seconds, it was the main topic of conversation at school the next day (it was normal among classmates to share notes in a notebook to compare if you had understood this or that part of the song right or wrong).
No importa la edad que tengas, escuchar ost de anime siempre va a ser una experiencia revolucionaria, y poder escuchar por fin la música de series como Digimon, Shaman King o Rurouni Kenshin sin cortes siendo niño -o entrando a la adolescencia- se siente asombroso, porque no se parece en nada a la música o a las letras de las canciones populares de Latinoamérica que escuchas en la TV nacional o la radio (orgullosamente aqui tenemos cuatro y arpa, pero la música pop del Japón de los 70s, 80s y 90s es un mundo aparte); y así, poder escuchar canciones completas se sentía un lujo, sobre todo antes de poder tener acceso a internet en casa, ¡incluso!, una vez familiarizados con los horarios de FoxKids y con algo de suerte y planificación, tenías un radio o walkman con grabadora para crear tus propias "playlist" de animé sobre algún casete en casa que tus padres te dieran el permiso de usar, y yo afortunadamente tenía ambos, y tambien un VCR que me regalaron en alguna navidad cuando estaban de moda los mini locales estilo "blockbuster" en Zulia, donde podias alquilar peliculas de Disney y algunas de Saint Seiya (sospecho que los dueños eran otakus de primera generación, y esa sospecha me hace sonreír hoy).
No matter how old you are, listening to anime ost will always be a revolutionary experience, and finally being able to listen to the music of series like Digimon, Shaman King or Rurouni Kenshin without cuts as a kid -or entering adolescence- feels amazing, because it's nothing like the music or lyrics of the popular Latin American songs you hear on national TV or radio (proudly here we have cuatro and harp, but the pop music of Japan in the 70s, 80s and 90s is a world apart); and so, being able to listen to complete songs felt like a luxury, especially before you could have internet access at home, even! , once you were familiar with FoxKids schedules and with some luck and planning, you had a radio or walkman with a tape recorder to create your own anime playlist on a cassette tape at home that your parents gave you permission to use, and I fortunately had both, and also a VCR that I got for Christmas when the mini blockbuster stores in Zulia were in fashion, where you could rent Disney movies and some Saint Seiya movies (I suspect the owners were first generation otakus, and that suspicion makes me smile today).
El TBT de hoy es sobre un recuerdo muy especial, hace unos 10 años pude viajar a Colombia y coincidir con un concierto en vivo de la maestra Gabriela Vega, la interprete de los temas de apertura de Shaman King y algunos de InuYasha para Latinoamérica; pude conocer a su mamá (hermosa señora) y a su bebé en Backstage porque a este evento asistí como Invitada Cosplayer Internacional (representé a Venezuela en el panel de Jueces junto a mi amiga Mao, a quien adorare hoy y siempre por su dulzura y forma de ser), en ese viaje ocurrieron muchas cosas geniales, podría hablar horas de eso, pero hoy uno de los momentos que quiero compartir es que pude escuchar en vivo la música que cuando era niña perseguía grabar desesperadamente con mi pequeño walkman pegada al televisor.
Today's TBT is about a very special memory, about 10 years ago I was able to travel to Colombia and coincide with a live concert of the master Gabriela Vega, the interpreter of the opening themes of Shaman King and some of InuYasha for Latinamerica; I was able to meet her mom (beautiful lady) and her baby in Backstage because I attended this event as an International Cosplayer Guest (I represented Venezuela in the Judges panel with my friend Mao, who I will adore today and always for her sweetness and way of being), in that trip many great things happened, I could talk for hours about that, but today one of the moments I want to share is that I could listen live the music that when I was a child I was desperately trying to record with my little walkman glued to the TV.
Y qué concierto, su voz en vivo es espectacular, suena igual e incluso muchísimo mejor a como la oías a través del TV (muchos lloramos escuchándola, hay mucha magia en escuchar a este tipo de artista en vivo, simplemente tienen un aura especial, una presencia, mucha magia) y como tenía acceso a estar al lado de la tarima (prácticamente podías tener al artista a menos de 2 metros de distancia y darle la mano) yo pedí selfies como recuerdo y pequeños videos a los amigos y cosplayers Colombianos que me iba encontrando mientras rodeaba al escenario buscando a Mao.
And what a concert, her live voice is spectacular, it sounds the same and even much better than how you heard it through the TV (many of us cried listening to her, there is a lot of magic in listening to this kind of artist live, they simply have a special aura, a presence, a lot of magic) and as I had access to be next to the stage (you could practically have the artist less than 2 meters away and shake her hand) I asked for selfies as a souvenir and small videos to friends and Colombian cosplayers that I was finding while I was going around the stage looking for Mao.
Me da mucha pena no conseguir en este momento el instagram de la cosplayer de traje azul para apoyarla correctamente, pero recuerdo que todos amamos como se veía, era uno de los rostros mas bonitos del evento y todo su traje estaba muy bien hecho. Donde quiera que se encuentre espero que este bien.
I'm very sad that I don't currently get the blue costumed cosplayer's instagram to support her properly, but I remember we all loved how she looked, she was one of the prettiest faces at the event and her whole costume was very well done. Wherever she is I hope she is doing well.
Por otro lado yo nunca volví a utilizar mi traje de Lady Oscar (en la foto soy la de peluca rubia y traje rojo), lo hice específicamente para asistir a esa invitación internacional pero, no sé, cuando regrese a Venezuela no lo llevé a ningún evento... y vaya que los años no han pasado en vano, porque hace poco estrenó la nueva película de "La Rosa de Versalles" de la mano de MAPPA (se agradece este milagro, pero igual, nunca te perdonaremos lo que hiciste con Yuri On Ice).
On the other hand, I never used my Lady Oscar costume again (in the photo I am the one with the blonde wig and red suit), I did it specifically to attend that international invitation but, I don't know, when I returned to Venezuela I didn't wear it to any event... and the years have not passed in vain, because recently the new movie of "The Rose of Versalles" was released by MAPPA (we are grateful for this miracle, but still, we will never forgive you for what you did with Yuri On Ice).
Quizá este año me anime a hacer un remake, el traje aun me queda y lo tengo bien conservado, solo debo hacer de nuevo algunas cosas pequeñas como las medallas. Despues de todos estos años, ¿eso sería lindo verdad?.
Maybe this year I will do a remake, the suit still fits and I have it well preserved, I just have to redo some small things like the medals. After all these years, that would be nice, wouldn't it? ~

Ok.. Jetix, Blockbuster... son cosas de mi época jeje, saludos María, qué genial tu aventura aquí en Colombia como Cosplayer, se nota que te esmeraste y lograste un sueño porque ciertamente en ese canal, bueno en Foxkids podíamos disfrutar de animes geniales, recuerdo que había otro canal brutal donde también pasaban creo que se llamaba Animax, no sé si lo conociste, pasaban animes alucinantes. Me gustó mucho leerte y espero que sigas asistiendo a eventos así para representar a nuestro país como Cosplayer, ese es un gran trabajo que no todos comprenden, pero me parecen geniales las personas que lo hacen y lo aman. Un gusto conocerte 🙌😀💛.. You Rockkk!!! 👍😎🔥📸❤️
Seguro somos contemporáneos Fer! Claro que recuerdo Animax, y Locomotion (casi casi juraba que lo mencionarías jajaja), fueron buenos años. Gracias por tus buenos deseos 😭 se pasó de lindo. En este momento estoy en un periodo de descanso del Cosplay pero espero volver pronto, estoy muy agradecida por todas las personas que me ha permitido conocer y las experiencias que me ha traído, mas que todo por lo espontaneo que se da/dió todo.
