Tuesday for me on Hive means three tune tuesday...

It's Tuesday and of course that means it's inspiration time!!

And well take a bow Tengo, yes that is me, well my alt posted for julyinleo yesterday a post in Afri-Tunes community .... namely ... Why 2 TONE ska is my favourite music genre.

So I discussed how 2 Tone Records was created by Jerry of The Specials and I talked about 2 Tone ska, I also mention that I would omit one band from that list.

This post is dedicated to that band ...

So this I guess could be described as a part 2 ...

So a wee tribute to Madness coming up!

It is Tuesday and that of course means that it's #ttt or #threetunetuesday and so it's time to share some tunes with you!

Madness - The Prince

Their first single of many hits.

The Prince was released on 10th August 1979 on the 2 Tone Record label, yes Madness were one of the 15 acts who released material on 2 Tone.

The song The Prince is a tribute to Jamaican ska singer Prince Buster. He was such an influence on them, that they took their name Madness (the band took their name from one of his songs, from one of his songs. Madness was the B side to the The Prince single.

For you kids who have no idea about vinyl. A single had two sides to it. The A side traditionally was the single released, turn it over and you would another song, the B side.

Madness like to think of themselves as all being nutty and called themselves The Nutty Boys.

And they were fluffing nutty as One Step Beyond shows!

You can hear them mention Buster, this was originally to be a B-side for Prince Buster their inspiration.

I had to include this as at the 30 second mark you can hear the iconic intro from Chris Smash ....
"Hey, don't watch that, watch this..."

You might remember your pantyhose girl (Rhoda Dakar from the Bodysnatchers) in my post yesterday @deraaa well you can the similar stomping dancing styles!

Yeah Madness had the nuttiest sound aroundddd...

Madness - Driving in My Car

The video for Driving In My Car just showed how fluffing nutty there!

This classic song about love for a motor was yet another top 20 hit in the UK in 1982.

This song was released after The Specials split when three of them left to form Fun Boy Three, and they make a brief appearance in this video.

Well I have not included ones I wanted to include and I am at three songs already!

So I shall include one more as a Bonus tune as it has a funny video to match the lyrics and tells a coming of age story.

It was the only UK Number 1 for Madness!

Madness - House of Fun

The song tells the story of a boy on his 16th birthday trying to buy condoms at a chemist. Here in the UK the age of consent is 16, and so he is "16 today and up for fun".

The chemist though didn't understand the boy's slang phrases such as "box of balloons with a featherlight touch" and "party hats with the coloured tips".

The confused chemist tells the boy "This is a chemist not a joke shop" and points him towards the 'House of Fun'
