Hello Hello to all you wonderful Hivians

Winter means soup!

Weather is pretty dreich at the moment, and it has been soup season.

Which got me thinking about a band that I have not played on threetunetuesday before.

I am sure some of you will recognise the first song if not the band!

Anyway back we go and I bring you the Scottish alternative rock band The Soup Dragons!

I wonder who knows where they took their name from?

It is Tuesday and that of course means that it's #ttt or #threetunetuesday and so it's time to share some tunes with you!

As you know I love drawing in inspiration from many places for my three tune tuesday post.

@ablaze started #ttt 141 weeks ago! Go check out what it is all about on his latest post Tunes of 1983 for Three Tune Tuesday - Week 140 - 10 HBI shares to be won!

Do go support @ablaze as without him we would not have this mental fun musical activity that you can win HSBI from! I am happy to be one of the TEN sponsors and it is kinda fun checking out music from all over this global village of ours!

Long live #ttt 😁🎼 and #threetunetuesday

Today we are going back to Scotland in the late 80s and early 90s.

The Soup Dragons were formed in 1985 in Bellshill awee town near Motherwell in Scotland.

As for their name, they took it from the popular kids TV program The Clangers.

The Soup Dragon dwells in the soup wells within the Clangers' planet. She is often summoned by tapping on the top of what look like small inactive volcanoes; she slides the lid back, and then takes a jug from (usually) Small Clanger, which she fills for them to eat.

The Soup Dragons - I'm Free

Probably their most famous and most successful song was the RollingStones cover of I'm Free.

I do love my reggae and I love how they added toasting overdub by reggae star Junior Reid.

The single was released in 1990 and reached No. 5. in the UK charts and was used on the soundtrack for the movie The World's End (2013).

The Soup Dragons - Divine Thing

This time we fast forward a couple of years to 1992 and also across the water with the tune Divine Thing which was the band's biggest hit in the United States.

The Soup Dragons video was nominated by MTV as one of the year's best. However, they were beaten to the top spot by Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit". No real disgrace that.

The Soup Dragons - Mother Universe

We close out with another song from the Lovegod album of 1990.

The much less known Mother Universe.

Like so many good bands they disbanded in 1995 and dispersed into bands like Teenage Fanclub and Future Pilot A.K.A amongst others.

I hope that you enjoyed these The Soup Dragons tunes.

Which was your favourite (if any) ?

Note: The three four YouTube videos that I have shared are not owned by me, I am simply spreading great music on Hive.

I wish that you all have a brilliant rest of your week, and until we meet again enjoy your tunes 🎶🎵🎶

I haven't heard of them either. Some good songs from the ones I could open, apparently a couple don't play well with copyrights here in the US.... Cool stuff! I should do a reggae one next week!
