Kids in America A 1981 Wilde TTT

Hello hello silver bloggers, music lovers and Hello hivers!

One of my favourite days because it means a post on Hive will be written by me, and I get to hear other music that Hiveians enjoy. Well for the select band that participate in ttt anyway!

We are going back to my Silver Chronicles post of a few weeks ago My Soundtrack for the 80s my favourite decade

Quite a self-explanatory title and it is my inspiration for the next few posts on ttt!

The year is now 1981 and we are diving into a female singer who was carrying on the family business!...

3 tunes from 1981 and her self titled debut album Kim Wilde coming up...

It is Tuesday and that of course means that it's #ttt or #threetunetuesday and so it's time to share some tunes with you!

@ablaze started #ttt 259 weeks ago! Go check out what it is all about on his latest post Ireland's Top 30 Songs of all Time (10, 11, 12) for Three Tune Tuesday - Week 258 - win some HBI

Do go support @ablaze as without him we would not have this mental fun musical activity that you can win HSBI from! I am happy to be one of the SIX sponsors and it is kinda fun checking out music from all over this global village of ours!

He has just released some winners posts, so go support those posts, he gets no support from any whales or even curation trails for these posts that he does. 255 weeks is an incredible amount of time, and I for one love that he runs this, and I appreciate the time and dedication that he puts in, when he could be doing something else.

Long live #ttt 😁🎼 and #threetunetuesday

The Band - Kim Wilde

For this week’s #TTT, as I have already mentioned (if you were paying fluffing attention that is!) I’m taking us back to 1981. 1981 is a vintage year to choose. This was the year Kim Wilde released her self title debut album Kim Wilde.

She was our Princess of Pop in the UK, so we are diving into the early discography of Kim Wilde. 1981 was her breakout year and she had this incredible ability to blend the raw energy of the punk era with the polished, synth-heavy sound that would come to define the 80s.

My parennts were huge fans of her father Marty Wilde and with her brother, Ricky, Marty helped craft a sound that was instantly iconic.

What a fun day I have had today digging into her tunes again, and I found out she is still fliffing well touring!! So a bonus tune at the end from this singing Sliver Blogger that she is...

1981 was a banger of a year for them, and all three of these tunes were released in 1981.

We have three of their songs followed on with Grace Jones singing one of the songs.

Tune 1 - Kim Wilde - Kids in America

You can’t talk about 1981 without this wee cracker from a gorgeous Kim Wilde. Who knew that years later I would marry a kid from America lol!

This is the track that started it all. Released early in 1981, it’s a high-energy anthem that perfectly captures that feeling of youthful restlessness. It reached number 2 in the UK charts and became a global smash hit. It’s impossible not to sing along to that opening synth line.

Tune 2 - Kim Wilde - Chequered Love

Following up a hit like Kids in America is no easy feat, but "Chequered Love" did it fluffing well. It has a slightly more new wave guitar feel while keeping that catchy pop sensibility. It really showcased Kim's vocal range and solidified her status as a mainstay on the charts.

Tune 3 - Kim Wilde - Water on Glass

This was the third single from her self-titled debut album in 1981. It’s a bit more experimental than the first two, with lyrics that actually touch on the experience of Tinnitus—something quite unique for a pop song at the time. It’s got a great driving beat and shows the depth the Wilde family was bringing to the songwriting.

Do you know she is still touring? In her mid 60s and still strutting her stuff, the British Debbie Harry if ever there was one...

Bonus Tune

So there you have it 3 songs released in 1981 from Kim Wilde this week with my 80s Soundtrack post as the inspiration!

Which was your favourite tune? Or have you never heard of them?

Note: The 4 YouTube videos that I have shared are not owned by me, I am simply spreading great music on Hive.

I wish that you all have a brilliant happy fun and terrific Tuesday until we meet again enjoy your tunes 🎶🎵🎶

Thanks for visiting!

I only know Kids in America, so I will likely have to dig into some more of these at some point. Right now I have been listening to the new Neil Diamond album this morning.

I was wondering if you had heard of her. I did not know there was a new Neil Diamond album, I tell you there are quite a few albums being dropped from older artists lately.

The only songs I remember by her are Kids in America and You Keep Me Hangin' On. She was big for a period of time then kind of vanished from the scene here in the US. Kind of like the same thing that happened with Samantha Fox. Kim has a great voice though doesn't she? I didn't know anything about her father or brother, a musical family!

Nice TTT today, well done Ed!

Oh yes she was so much bigger than Sam Fox who was the massive page 3 girl. I was intrigued to see Kim had made it over there, you never know who goes there or makes it, or makes it here too!
