This was music made about 4 months ago in Winter. I used Udio to make all the songs! I like them because you can have a longer prompt for more complex lyrical content. I just made the artworks for this in Ideogram the other day.
I was trying to work out some sort of dark retro industrial vibe for the music. There are 12 tracks. All of them with a different sound. The songs are under 4 minutes. I was going for some general song ideas and directions that captured some inspirations of the time.
This is the first song on from Soulless And Dangerous called Nightmare Latency. The song is about overconsumption and how the damage caused by this goes largely ignored in peoples minds (or it does and it drives them mad) while it creates a nightmare for life on earth
I got the idea for the album title from a quote by Dani Filth saying that A.I. Music is "soulless and dangerous" I think like any other extension of humans A.I. acts as a reflection of us back to us. I like how some A.I.s confront and correct disinformation, they can be programmed to deceive but not lie, though they can hallucinate garble that misdirects. I didn't have that concept in mind when I made the songs but the idea seemed to fit for the content of the album.
This song is more of a downtempo track. I think it has some of the best lyrics from the album! Gained some likes on it. Has some spooky vibes and quirks. Kinda trippy. I like music that is sort of psychedelic and helps you feel and think. Industrial music is usually brutal too, I'm glad some of that does come across in the songs.
I'm glad to be continuing with the Cyberpunk/Industrial themes. Inspires me to keep doing some of that. Been working allot lately. Putting this music out has helped me refresh!! I put my ideas into the songs and the lyrical injunctions help me to remember what I have been thinking about. I had this saying about "staying on the sunny side of morbid" about how pain can be your friend as long as you don't fetishize it. There is a song on Soulless And Dangerous called Sunny Side Of Morbid which captures this idea. I like how it turned out. There was another one similar that was also pretty good. I may have to write my own version sometime.
The next song is called Wellness Check about the brutality of wellness checks! If someone is having a panic attack or in mental turmoil they or someone else may request a wellness check. There have been many stories in the paper and online about police being sent to wellness checks and the person getting hurt or killed. Sometimes when someone is being a nasty troll online they may call a wellness check on someone they dislike... but at least it's not a swat team! ... or is it just as bad? Terrifying
Continuing with the brutal and unsettling themes there are a couple songs about a medieval torture device called the brank or bridle that was used to silence and humiliate women. It was a sort of cage that would go over the face to mute the victim and they would be paraded around town to be humiliated. I just found random themes while I was making the music and heard about this device while I was browsing social media...specifically tiktok for this one
That's about it! An interesting experiment that I am glad to have gotten out. When I listen to it I feel a therapeutic sense about it. I was happy to pull off more of that classic industrial sound yet more downtempo with some new wave elements in parts..gave it a sort of retrowave feel. I put this out on my 2 days off here, my "weekend". I will continue my creative projects through the next days and months. I am feeling the inspiration hitting. I think some of the sunshine and greening outside has helped. Thanks for listening and reading!!
