The fort

The fort

Good Morning, I hope your doing well

Today I will share a few shots from a visit to Fort Tabor poark here in New Bedford, often when I visit there in the early morning before and up to sunrise I spend most of my time at the beahc as I do love seeing the sunrise over water, but occassionally when I visit there I take a walk around the park including around the fort which I will share a few shots of today

Starting with a shot taken well before sunrise in the dark

Now there is a lot of confusion over the name of this park it seems, or perhaps I say two opposing groups on what they feel it should be called the Fort Itself is Fort Rodman but the Park is called Fort Tabor after a smaller temporary fort that had been there

Also known as the Old Stone Fort, Fort Rodman (known as "Fort at Clark's Point" until 1898) began construction in 1857 under the third system of US fortifications, and in 1862 construction became overseen by Henry Robert, author of Robert's Rules of Order and an Army Corps of Engineers officer. The fort, as built, had emplacements for 72 cannon in three tiers; a fourth tier was originally planned, but this was removed from the design to allow more timely completion. Construction was halted in 1871, and the fort as planned was never completed.

The fort is awaiting restoration and is not open to the public which I hope does come to be soon I would love to see inside it.

Now some shot sof it after the sun had risen and I was taking a walk around the park

It looks quite sturdy but seems looks are deceiving, its not stable and hence they have it closed so no one can be at risk inside the fort

Shot sof it from various angles

not sure why I find the fire hydrant in this spot kind of amusing or perhaps it seems out of place to me

It looks so menacing in that first photo. Like something out of a horror movie or a bunker in a spy movie. Nice shots as always!
