Lights Out
Running late today, but no - I haven't forgotten - or been hit by a bus. It was actually a pretty good day all in all and was very busy with Christmas "fun". Every second year we play hosts and have between 15 and 20 people coming for the meal on the Eve (when it is celebrated in Finland), and we have started setting up already, as it takes a lot of work. We need an extra dining table to seat, and have to collect plates from family to serve everyone, as well as do all the various prep. We do the ham also - which is over 8 kilos.

After that however, the local amusement park which is generally closed through the winter, had a "light" event for a couple days, where they have put on some various light displays. My wife thought I would like to go and take some photos there before it ends tomorrow, and this is what I got. It ends tomorrow, but it is going to rain more (the snow is already sliding off the roof), so I braved "light rain" instead tonight.
It was 18€ for a ticket.
It wasn't worth it.
But, since I was there, I might as well take some photos.
It was like a school art display.

A big heart, which would have been okay for lover pictures, if they had thought through the position of it so there wasn't a whole lot of random stuff in the image too.
The tallest building in Finland - for a little longer. Supposedly they are building a larger one down near Helsinki somewhere. This one is not that tall either at 168m (552 ft), thought it was built way back in 1971, so it was probably pretty tall for the time. For a Nordic country
And then there were some faces painted in flourescent colors, and lit up with blacklights. They were pretty well done overall, and they looked like they had been spraypainted with cans, so not too bad technique-wise. If I was still a raver...
Oh, and most of the amusement par was closed, but they had a cafe or two open, as well as a couple arcade games. There weren't too many people playing, nor visiting at all, though I get there about an hour and a half before it closed. Since it gets dark at 4pm at the moment, there might have been more people earlier, plus the weather had been better then also. I had to continually wipe my lens.
While the displays were mediocre at best, with so few people around at this time of night, it was quite nice to walk through the park alone. The few times I have been there earlier was in the summer and it was full of screaming kids - tonight, it was peaceful, with only the sound effects and instrumental music playing.
I think the prizes at these sideshows have got worse. I remember in high school I won a big fluffy teddy bear for my girlfriend, that was about the size of her. It was even pretty decent quality. The stuff now is just brightly colored trash to grab attention, but not actually be nice.

While it wasn't the most awesome show in the world, at least it mode for a bit of different night out with the camera, so it wasn't a complete waste of time. I took some other photos from there as well, but they didn't really fit in with the theme and there were not enough blacklights used. They might be useful for an article image or two later - so not a total loss.

Hosting 15-20 people at home is not an easy thing both physcially and economically. I wouldn't like my house getting dirt :) This looks like our religious days. However, it remained in old days as today people mostly prefee to be alone or contact less people.
Yep. And, for the most part, I don't talk much during the day and spend most of the time in the kitchen :)

Yeah, it is interesting that people are happier when alone - but also lonely. Rather than learning how to be with people, they isolate.
Oh, today we just did the last of the Christmas shopping, and got some books back to the library, to get 2 new ones as I work only one day between Christmas and New Year. Other than that, relaxing watching some Netflix and packing/wrapping gifts. Not a bad day.
Good to get the shopping out of the way?
Three more days of work - then I have the rest of the year off! Looking forward to it :)

Both. My family live close by, a 40-minute drive to reach my brother.
That is nice. I wish it was the same for me. I haven't had a proper (my) family Christmas for 15 years.
Modern art is full of varied colours and motifs that clearly reflect the technological development applied by artists. The play of light, laser sources, movement and corpuscular dynamics is for the viewer a kind of magic “children enjoy this”.
This is more high school art - so kids might like it ;)
There is a similar building in Pécs, Hungary, where my wife's family lives: the Pécs Television Tower, the tallest building in Hungary. It was built in 1968/1973 and its height is 197 m. It includes also a non-revolving restaurant and an observation deck, but those are at a height of 75 m. The rest of the tower is not publicly accessible.
I have been to the observation deck several times with various visitors (grandchildren, brothers) over the years.

This one has a revolving restaurant on top that overlooks the city on one side, and one of the large lakes that frames the city on the other. Smallsteps enjoys it up there - but the restaurant is very expensive.
Busy day but having it with friends is a good thing! That amusement park looked a little to be desired but it’s something to do, so we endure through it lol. Did smallsteps enjoy it?
It was just me! By the time I could go, Smallsteps was already heading to bed. She would have likely been bored in 15 minutes though - she likes doing things, not seeing things at this point.
Ah I missed that part lol. The spray paint was pretty wild, the neon colors. I know there was a lot of detail in that but that event doesn’t look like it would be something up my alley.

That is really nice of you to host the parties. My brother in law also invites coworkers over for thanksgiving and Christmas, especially those that are away from their homes and don't have anyone to spend it with. The light event display looked interesting, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
This is nice! We are having a friend over on the 25th who will stay the night as well. After a recent divorce, it will be his first alone for a very, very long time - perhaps his first ever.
That is a very nice gesture, and I bet he really appreciates it.
If you keep pikachu in low light and try to look at it from far away they kind of feel like demons lol. I had those plushies pokemons for my nephews and it was a good time at that point. I don't know about your side of the world but here Shopping malls and the big places are not that much crowd pulling anymore. No idea maybe pandemic lethargy is not yet out of people it seems. When I go out to such places during the weekends, they seem to be not so crowded like before.

Yeah, I think it is a mix of pandemic and the drive to online shopping. People hate people these days.
The art is amazing, I see so clearly the lights are so incredible, it's not easy for some people to do, but you so grant to shoot it.
I think hosting 15 to 20 people in your home is cool and a nice way to celebrate the season. Things are quite expensive and I know it is not easy but I pray God continues to strengthen you

Was it the first or second time this event ran? If it was an early iteration maybe it will be better next year.
Do you rotate with someone else? We just rotate though the parents (one year we go to my parents and the following year we go to J's parents) XD Hosting a lot of people sounds exhausting x_x J can manage the logistics for it (and has done for parties including catering for multiple and very different food requirements!) but me not so much, and then on the flipside it's my mum's jam, every year she hosts a huge Christmas party which I swear half the island turns up to (maybe not quite but not far off XD though this year we're having a quiet one as she doesn't really feel up to it after her mother passed away just a few months ago).
This weekend was kind of hectic, I had plans but they kind of got compressed into what ended up being a very late night (and I didn't complete enough of the things I was trying for) as I had to run and deal with a minor emergency (someone clicked on a link that they shouldn't have, but there's only so much that could be done on a weekend).
I feel it was the first, but not sure. It is not a bad idea if the weather is good and there is now on the ground. Might be better to have it in January where it is more guaranteed.
My sister-in-law. They have a smaller place now so it gets squeezy with so many people. Their older kids are married now, so spend every second one away at their respective spouse's places. This is the one where everyone is together.
My condolences. The first one can be hard as it changes the dynamic and it brings back a lot of memories. A quiet and reflective one might be a good idea though.

Thanks! Everything has turned out well so far (the potential compromises we were most concerned about mitigating were apparently most probably safe/unlikely to be able to be acted on by idiots) and I'm really freaking exhausted and don't want to do anything more but my sister is absolutely adamant that we have to change the passwords right this very second just in case, even though I pointed out that at no point were login credentials asked for never mind given/stolen.
It's waiting til after dinner (because that's just how logistics have ended up working out) and only if I can con J into driving because I'm probably at a level of being dangerous x_x
My partner loves to do these holiday light celebrations whenever she can. Glad I won't have to pay $20 USD for it though, since she is already out in San Diego with her family doing holiday things without me. It also means I will get to enjoy a low-key birthday, with no unnecessary fanfare! I still need to come up with proper excuses to get out of meeting with my family, but I much prefer to celebrate my half birthday June 20 than my actual birthday December 20.
As for Saturday, it was another non-stop affair, starting at midnight seeing Keys N Krates at Elsewhere, my favorite club in Brooklyn and ending at midnight on our way to see Matroda at Avant Gardner, the biggest club complex in NYC. If I'm not at the club, then why am I even wasting my time in NYC to begin with. When in Rome...
