Blurred Vision

It is Eurovision Finals tonight, so that means watching the most camp competition that has ever been created. And for those outside of Europe who don't know, it isn't about the music at all and the majority of the songs don't represent what people listen to. However, a lot of people get into it, because it is always a bit of fun to see how ridiculous some of the acts are. This year, Finland has not one, but two acts in the finals, as a Finnish group is representing Sweden, with a song about sauna culture. And the Finnish entry is dressed in bondage gear an has a song with a German name, Ich Komme.

It is all very classy.

This years competition is in Basel, Switzerland, a place I have actually been a long time ago to visit a friend who was living there at the time. It is nice to recognise locations in the cutaway shots that they show to advertise the country.

And now all 26 acts have performed, and the vote counting goes on, with people voting around Europe for their favourites, but they can't vote for their own country. Then the judges scores and the public scores provide 50% each and then the winner is announced for the biggest moment of their lives. And after this,

Most are never heard of again.

The Australian entry didn't make it past the semis. Yes, *the Australian entry in Eurovision. But hey, Israel is there too, controversially as many wanted them banned since they are at war, and Russia is banned. But, the problem with the Australian entries is that they take it too seriously, by entering actual songs. They have missed the point - the song doesn't matter, the gimmick does.

Who can win the hearts of minds of the tacky.

But it is all in fun.

And, I don't know who will win or has won, since Smallsteps fell asleep and my wife went to bed as soon as all the performers went, because she doesn't want to stay awake for two hours while they fill time with old entrants and random bits that are meant to be funny, but aren't.

I turned it off.

And as you can see from the picture above, we have a little visitor for the weekend that likes to get up much earlier than I like to. This morning it was 730 and he was raring to go. Thankfully the rule is, I don't have to walk him when he stays. Though, when we get our own sometime after summer, I feel that the rule isn't going to stick.

(I actually don't mind walking the dog)

If the weather is nice.

And since the weather will be warmish tomorrow and cloudy, I will spend it in the garden planting the various plants we bought today from the nursery. It is quite a large area and we don't have that many plants, but they will spread in time. So it is going to look weirdly bare for a year or two at least, because things grow so slowly here.

But we are on the way!

When it is done, I hope it isn't as bad as a Eurovision song.

Lights out, curtain down. Good night, my friend. A new day will bring us new adventures to tell, and we'll find out the winner. See you tomorrow.

Good for Austria. I saw the video of the victory, the show must go on.

Australia should have sent Jimmy Barnes...he'd fit in to the joke of it.

Can you imagine! He probably would have done pretty well.

Haha, yeah the old bastard is still going strong. I think he's up to the fourth come back tour after quitting forever three times previously.

This year I was truly not ashamed of our entry! Tautumeitas did so well! They looked like some sort of fairies or nature deities, and the vocal harmonies were lovely too!

I actually cheered for Finnish dommy mommy too! Ahaha!

They did well also! Though Smallsteps said "They are a bit scary" :D

Yeah, I heard about Eurovision, a few years ago a bearded lady made a splash :) I guess it is entertainment, so whatever goes...

Exactly! Another gimmick. In the last 15 years, it is about who is the biggest cultural victim, with the weirdest identity.

(Edited)

Israel going from to be banned to becoming the most popular in televotes, and finishing second was something I didn't expect ...

I didn't watch the show; on this side, Eurovision is just another tv show, but the news travels fast. I guess it was better to sleep like Smallsteps ;)

Exactly, the event is more than just music as it’s really a festival of quirky moments and weird innovations that make you laugh or be amazed. The gimmicks are what grab the audience’s attention more than the quality of the songs themselves and that adds a unique fun vibe.

I have always wondered what it would be like to be around the host city while it is going on. Might get pretty crazy!

Israel shouldn't have been picked at the first place since the situation of the country isn't at peace at the moment but it is an awesome one for the Australians to reach that far.

Yeah, I am not sure why Israel is there anyway - it isn't part of Europe.

I don't watch Eurovision. Seems like I am not missing out much.

*the Australian entry in Eurovision.

In Euroleague next season also should be a team from abu dhabi(?). This year final 4 will be in abu dhabi for sure. I guess money opens all doors...

This morning it was 730 and he was raring to go.

These days I get up around that time so it is not too bad.

Yep. For football at least. I am not sure how Australia got to Eurovision though! :D

I'm back in Portugal and last night there was a mix of emotions between the Eurovision contest and the final Portuguese football league games. Lots of car horning.

Not into any of both at all, grass streaming day at the farm for me :)

Grass streaming? That sounds like some new Gen-Z trend where they force themselves to watch grass grow :D

I believe this is what is called when you use a handlebar tool to get rid of all the high green which has grown around

I watched it too. I think slow songs have no chance to win, some kind of rock songs fcks my head :) Voting system still seems political.

What I have not understood is that why some male singers are insistently dressing as woman for several years. This might have a negative effect on kids and children.

I never caught on to the ESC. Always found it boring and most of the songs rather bad, as you say. For music, it's not something to watch. And I just don't like people making a show out of themselves enough to spend my time on it. But it seems like it was more of a family thing, and that is fun. While with other people, it's more interesting. I remember that I never liked "Germany's next Top Model" for all the million reasons there are to dislike it, but still attended to the group-watching with friends when in High-School.

Lily wants a dog, too. There are many street dogs here, and I would love to adopt one. But we still live above the restaurant for 2 more years, so, no dog for now. But it will be a strong weight on choosing the next rental. Walking the dog was always something that calmed me down a lot.

I hate all that filler stuff. It's part of the reason we stopped watching the talent shows in the US like that. Plus most of the judges are annoying morons. That doesn't help either!
