Bob Marley: The Prophet of Reggae and the Voice of Freedom

Good afternoon, gentlemen, today I want to talk to you about a great singer who influenced society around the world, not only in the way of thinking but also because of his physical appearance, since many people imitated him. I am talking about Robert Nesta Marley, but we all know him as Bob Marley.

So let's start.

Bob Marley's Life

Bob Marley was born into a very humble family in Jamaica (the island that the United States has abandoned). His mother Cedella Booker and his father Norval Sinclair Marley were of English origin and also white. What happened to that? Their son had many problems because the inhabitants of the island are all or almost all black.

"The Wailers" is the name of the first group he joined, together with his two friends Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh in 1960, but 10 years later the Rastafarian faith adopted it.

For those who do not know what the Rastafarian faith is:

The Rastafarian faith promotes the return to Africa and considers the Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia as a messianic figure.

Musical work and legacy

• Well, this is the first album, and I tell you that when I listen to it, my hair stands on end. There are so many things that I feel when I listen to it that I can't explain it. On this album we can find "Stir It Up" and "No More Trouble" these songs belong to "Catch a Fire" (1973)

• And now comes the album "Burnin'" from (1973) which is another beauty to listen to and this album made her known worldwide and the songs "Get Up, Stand Up" and "I Shot the Sheriff" are the reflection

• Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh left the group and Bob began to compose true works of art, the album "Natty Dread" (1974) and the most iconic song from the album "No Woman, No Cry"

• "Exodus" (1977) It's very difficult to choose a song from this great album. In case you don't know, it's called "Exodus" because Bob Marley had to leave his country because they tried to kill him, and we already know that when someone is influencing the people it's better to get rid of them, and that's what they tried with him. But this made him even stronger and this album is a reflection of that.

• "Kaya" from (1978) another great album with great songs but they are softer and their rhythm is more relaxed

You know that this man was a fighter but he was not a politician, he was a singer who helped his people as he could and made them aware of it in his lyrics where he spoke of oppression, justice, equality and that is why they tried to kill him but they couldn't, he died of cancer at the age of 36 in 1981.

I want to say that the greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to positively affect those around him.
