Beyoncé: Dominating Music and Redefining Power
Good afternoon, gentlemen, today I am going to talk to you about Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, although everyone knows her simply as Beyoncé.
So let's start.
In her family and friends circle, she is called Bey, although the public
usually uses other nicknames to refer to her, Queen B (Queen Beyoncé) or Sasha Fierce, the latter being a kind of alter ego that she created to overcome her shyness.
She was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas, United States. Her father was called Mathew Knowles, he was a medical equipment sales manager and her mother, Tina Knowles, who started out as a banker but decided to completely change course and become a stylist by opening her own beauty salon, Headliners was her name. If you are wondering where the name comes from, it is from her mother, her maiden name is Beyoncé, it was actually Beyincé, with a Latin 'i', which has French origins, but due to an error in her birth certificate, they wrote it with an 'o'.
She is a tough woman, and suggested that she use it as a stage name and still does. She also has a younger sister, Solange, who like her is involved in the showbiz industry and even composed some songs in the early days of the group Destiny's Child. They have always been very close. But her father abandoned her mother and her when she was only two months old. However, he returned as soon as he saw that he could get money from her. He was a good father although she felt that she needed his approval in everything she did.
I started singing when I was 4 years old, so it won't surprise you when I tell you that at 8 she already put together her first musical group. along with some girls, including Kelly Rowland and LaTavia Roberson, who would later be part of the first line-up of Destiny’s Child, the group that brought her success.
Destiny's Child's Top Hits:
"Say My Name" (1999)
- One of her most iconic songs, winner of two Grammy Awards. It talks about trust and infidelity in a relationship.
"Survivor" (2001)
- An empowerment anthem that reflects the group's resilience in the face of challenges, including changes in its members.
"Independent Women Part I" (2000)
- Included in the soundtrack of Charlie's Angels, it is a tribute to female independence and became a global hit.
"Bootylicious" (2001)
At first they were just performing for fun, in fact, the only money they made was the $5 we charged their families when they sang for them on a small stage their father had built in the back of our house. Over time it started to get more serious, so much so that their father left his job as a salesman to manage the group. Of course, with their father unemployed, their family had half of the income each month, so their father, Mathew Knowles, put a lot of pressure on them to get ahead. In fact, in 1992 their father founded his own record label, showing his ambition for fame. In 1995, at the age of 14, they signed their first record contract with Elektra
Despite all the success, it was time to try something new, so she decided to take a break from Destiny’s Child and start her solo career.
