Almost a decade later, I still “Try Everything”.

“What would you like to become in the future?” my dad asked. Excitedly, I told him I would love to become a medical doctor. With a broad smile on his face, he looked at me, and said, “very good”, but that was it.

I grew up wanting to become a neurosurgeon, a pilot, and a lot more. I was simply indecisive. I gave myself time to think about what I really want to do with my life when I came across Disney’s animated movie "Zootopia”, a movie about Judy Hopps, a cute little bunny that pursued her dream of becoming a top police officer but was met with a high level of discrimination in the force because she was the first bunny ever in the police force and was too tiny to fit into the ecosystem.

Judy Hopps needed to prove her bosses wrong and show her capability in solving the hardest cases of lost mammals in the animal world, rather than been a sideroad police officer that she was assigned to be. So, extra effort was needed from her compared to the others.

On her way to resume her job in the city, the song, “try everything” played till she got to her location. The song was sung by Gazelle, the best musician in Zootopia, however, it was voiced by Shakira. I remember the emotions I felt when she hopped on the train, and with so much excitement, she looked around, smiled, and was really happy when she finally got to her location and headed to her new office.

There were different soundtracks used in the movie at different scenes. The movie had many funny scenes where the soundtrack used was different. At some point, Judy Hopps met a friend, Nick, a clever fox, who at some point worked together to solve the complex cases ravaging their community.

The soundtrack, “Try everything” reminds me of how persistent Judy Hopps was and how she failed at some point, but finally she recorded success and was recognized by her boss. The soundtrack reminds me that even though there are many vices in the world and many challenges, I could still wither the storm with so much grace and be successful at it. It reminds me many years later that no matter how many times I fail despite trying my best, I can do it again many times over and I will eventually smile at the end of it all.

I remember seeing the movie over and again because of this particular soundtrack, and I remember recommending the Disney animation, “Zootopia” to my friends, who later told me they’ve seen it and had informed others to watch it too.

The soundtrack contributed to the reason I and many of my friends watched the movie and till now, I remember the lyrics of the song, word-for-word, not without remembering the first time I heard about it and from the movie I got it from.

The movie was released in March 2016 and the song was released earlier in January of the same year, but anytime I feel like listening to the song, I type “Try everything song from Zootopia” on google.

Many years later, the song still constitutes an important part of my days. Anytime I struggle to get things done, I simply go ahead and play the “try everything” song to feel inspired to do more and keep going to see if it’ll be worth it at the end. That’s why I learnt barbing, tailoring, and baking, and got really good at doing these things before I moved on to doing something else that’s entirely different from those hard skills I learnt.

I saw Zootopia once a long time ago. What drew me to it was how fascinated Mt big brother who never had interests in cartoons/animations was to it. I enjoyed it and then moved on to watch other movies like it. I can not recall the song, but if it's played, I will.

I'm glad you watched it. I don't remember the other soundtracks in it, but I remember "Try everything" really well.

If you can recommend others like it though, I don't mind. 😁

An epic soundtrack really does make you love a movie even more. At least it does for me hehe. Glad you like this one, do you hear the songs and think of the movie when you hear them?

Yes. All the time. In fact, the reason I know about the song to start with was because of the movie. So, anytime I listen to it now, I remember the cute Bunny and the Sly Fox. 😂
