Introduction

@ablaze has been doing 3 tune Tuesday for quite a while and we love the idea of it and some of the posts @stickupmusic has been doing it but I though I would join in too. it is a great way to listen to new music which is always something we want to do!

Our picks

This week we are all about the daddy of blues Robert Johnson. We were making a blues playlist and got quite involved listening to him again and wondering how he was so pivotal and iconic in the world of blues. Heavily influencing so many people from Bob Dylan to the Rolling stones, with Eric Clapton saying he was the most important blues player ever. Now listening to it compared ot listening to modern music, it is so raw, so true and so meaningful. Maybe this is why it resonates with so many people and is so influential?

Song 1

Have you been to the crossroads? Now this has been well covered and has some brilliant guitar on it. Now this song has been well covered and they even made a film of it, if you remember that? A classic 80's film with Karate kid it!

Here is Cream doing a version in 2005

If you sold your soul in the 80's then here is the trailer!

Song 2

There is something warm about this. It has the resonance of the gospel spiritual of the time. There is also something hard and sad about it. Again this is music in its rawest form. No fancy production tricks just a pure meaning and emotion that means something.

Song 3

Again this is a classic song that has stood the test of time and has been well covered over the decades since its release. The guitar solo he plays is fantastic as well is the "ooohhh" vocal which I think shows in a very small way his musical skill as well as his power as a singer. Now you might listen to all this and think well this is just an old blues song. You would be right, however you need to add this is an old blues song that influenced generations of music and continues to influence music today.

Bonus song

Damn how could I not add this to the list, it is such a classic blues tune! Pure 12 bar genius!

We love all types of music and hope that you like our choices!

Big up all the music in the world and the joy we get making and listening to it!

Excellent read and good to see some respect for Robert Johnson. He's very highly regarded by musos, but I feel he is getting forgotten by listeners. So I rally like this post. Thank you

I have friends that buried their synths at the crossroads for 23 hours(or whatever it was) to "supercharge" them...or something. Some kind of hardcore shenanigans... Eek
