Three tune Tuesday and this music is like led....it is heavy!
Introduction
@ablaze has been doing 3 tune Tuesday for quite a while and we love the idea of it and some of the posts @stickupmusic has been doing it but I thought I would join in too. it is a great way to listen to new music which is always something we want to do so when we do take part it is nice to listen to and explore some classics or even something new!
Our picks
This week we are all about the Led Zeppelin, lets not beat around the bush as they are iconic and well known. However recently we have been listening to them and breaking down the individual performances. Now arguably in their individual roles they are some of the best musicians in the rock business. Each one of them excelled in their instruments. Put them together though and you get what is probably the greatest rock band of all time.
Song 1
Now maybe not such an obvious choice but I just love the bass on this. John Paul Jones often just sits in the background letting Page and Plant do their thing but on this one you just can miss the fantastic bass line, it is even mixed higher than the guitars which is unusual for a Zeppelin song.
Song 2
It would not be a led Zep list without a classic Page riff. I used to listen to this on headphones full volume as a kid and that riff with the vocal reply is just pure gold. You can hear as well how Page layers guitars in the studio again giving it a thick and heavy sound. Allegedly he used to stay behind in the studio after everyone had gone just to layer guitars and they would come back to a lot of guitar tracks to miss. Not only is he layering the riffs there is a lot of subtle undertones and sustains in there, again to add to the layers.
Song 3
Now song three is Led Zep 2, is that cheating just casually putting a whole album in there....not when it is this album! I mean starting with Whole Lotta love and check out the Moby Dick drum solo for genius at work. This is an album with the artists at the very peek of there game and regardless of what type of music you like, it should be part of everyone's musical education.
