Three tune Tuesday and chilling in Exodus
Introduction
@ablaze has been doing 3 tune Tuesday for quite a while and we love the idea of it and some of the posts @stickupmusic has been doing it but I though I would join in too. it is a great way to listen to new music which is always something we want to do!
Our picks
This week we are all about Bob Marley, an icon of his time that lives on today and is being played on beaches all around the world as we speak. Recently we have been learning some of the bass lines and have been listening to one album in particular, Exodus. This was their 9th studio album you get the feeling this is where they reached their absolute peek, having played and played for years this is the moment where it came together with a sense of perfection. This is probably as a collection the best Bob Marley album out there so lets have a listen to a few of the classic songs that are on there.
Song 1
Ok, so lets start with the title song from the album. Just if you only have 1 min listen to the first minute, hear the quality of the musicianship on this album. At every level the playing is faultless, but relaxed. The production is brilliant, the use of delays and reverbs while obvious seemlessly mix into the track. Like I said we have been listening to the bass a bit, so find the bass with your ears and see what he is doing!
Song 2
How does Bob Marley like his donuts? with Jam in......its a classic joke to go with this classic song. This is a song with a common theme for Bob Marley which is coming together, being together, fighting together, making music together. There is always a sense of unity in his lyrics somewhere. Now if you want something to tune your ears into, check the panned left and right little percussion parts. They don't do much but they do add to the general feel of this laid back tune.
Song 3
I could not do this album without mentioning "3 little birds" played by buskers and bands all around the world and is always a top sing along song for us when we are all together. This is such a timeless classic you must have heard it? Now I had never seen the official video to it until now but is that a pig smoking a Camberwell carrot?
The album
Now to me this is an album that in some ways is greater than the sum of its part. There is something about the way the songs flow together and create a body of work that is rich and compelling. So if you are relaxing or pottering around the house then here is a playlist of the whole album
