Insane Plan - what WAS I thinking?!

Welcome to the second part of the Blog.

Two things to begin with…

Firstly, I was amazed by how many voted on, and re-blogged the first part.
Thanks for your interest, and I’ll try to keep the posts as interesting as poss.

Secondly, I did mention that I didn’t have a clue what I was doing.
I really, really, really don’t have a clue. So don’t take anything I say or do as ‘Best Advice’.
I should end every blog with ‘Don’t try this at home’..
I expect I’ll be learning a lot from my own mistakes.

Anyway, on we go…

Why am I doing this?
A good place to start I think.

In 2016 I was made redundant from my job. I’d spent years driving a company car, which I now had to return.
Having been told for years what car to drive, I went a little wild and handed over to the 14 year-old part of my nature, and he bought a white ’98 convertible Mustang.

Of course, all of my sensible, well adjusted friends said “He’ll keep it for a year and then sell it and buy a proper, sensible, well adjusted car.”

Enter my stubborn streak.

I couldn’t afford to commute every day, so I came up with a ‘Plan B’.
Keep the Mustang, buy a little cheap to run, cheap to tax, cheap to insure motorcycle.
What’s not to like?

Of course it was too small for me and I looked like Hagrid riding it, but that didn’t matter.

In fact, I absolutely loved it.

So much so that I decided to upgrade. And, headstrong ‘Walter Mitty’ that I am, I had to turn it into an adventure.
I’d fly out to India, buy a bike, and ride it back.

You can hear my sensible friends slapping their foreheads and sighing.

I read books and watched the vlogs of others engaged in similar ventures, resolved to break with tradition and do this in a proficient manner.

Seems that if I bought a bike in India and rode it back, I wouldn’t be permitted to ride it in the UK as it would have been built to a different standard.
OK, time to slightly adapt the plan.
I know! Buy the bike here.

Then ride to India anyway.

Apart from going a little further East than India, that’s still the plan.
Organised as ever!
Just ride off into the sunset.
Actually, if I rode off into the sunset, I’d be riding in precisely the wrong direction.
SunRISE. That’s East isn’t it. Ride off into the sunRISE….
Yes, that’s the ticket!

Anyway, I’ve droned on enough for one day.

The next part will go into the various preparations, not least of which was having to actually learn to ride a motorcycle..
