Hive Open Mic #155 - Father and Son (Cat Stevens)
(Edited)
This is the Week 155 entry for the Hive Open Mic, with the theme of 'DNA'..
Written in 1970 by Cat Stevens, it was originally a part of a project with Nigel Hawthorne, destined to become a film set during the Russian Revolution. A son who is desperate to join the Revolution, against the wishes of his father.
Cat Stevens was seriously ill and close to death with tuberculosis in 1969 and, likely due to this, the project never really got off the drawing board, but thankfully both he and the song survived.
Not my own suggestion, this, but was mentioned to my good friend @anna-newkey by @jasperdick, and I thought "Hmmm..."
Hope you like this version...

We do indeed! Lovely! 😍
This a beautiful song
And your editing was really cool with both guitar strumings and soloing.
Great one .
Thanks.
I'm sure there were many who improved their editing skills during Lockdown..
Better than doing jigsaw puzzles anyway.. lol.
Really true.. 😂😂
Lockdown mostly improved my alcoholism :). This cover was stunningly beautiful and is currently criminally undervalued, you made me remember my childhood dream was to grow up and be Ronan Keating , thanks for this magical tune bro. Im working my way through this week's entries and you've made my Saturday evening with this one.I will likely give it a few listens, might even learn the tune , well done!
Thanks buddy..
Seriously appreciated.
I just hear dropped chords and ropey vocals, so it's really good that someone else hears more..
In fact, that's fired me up to making sure I post another one this week.
(I must admit to being a bit lazy and not posting one on Comedy Week.)
Thanks again.
This is beautiful. You are very talented with the guitar. The whole stuff came out really fine and I 3nhoted listening to you.
Kudos to you man
Such a classic and I always liked you version. Your video skills have come along.

During Lockdown I had a choice.
Work on video editing,
Or do jigsaw puzzles... lol.
May as well work on useful skills. I have tried multi-angle for my drumming videos, but need to read up on the editor I use as it can do so much more.

There were some YouTube tutorials came with mine.
Had it not been for that I'd no doubt still be trying to figure out how to turn the damn thing on...
I have to decide what learning activities I spend time on. For now it's mostly drums. It's always good to be gaining new skills though.

Glad you liked it.
Kind words very much appreciated..
Thanks.
Hermano UD. Canta excelentemente bien! Conozco el tema y debo decir que los disfrute tanto como el original. Bien hecho!
Oh wow I'm so glad somebody could do this one so well! It seemed like a perfect fit for the DNA theme! I landed up doing a song called "My Father's Eyes" by Eric Clapton which also suited the theme well!
Thanks for that.
I was sort of stuck for inspiration, so your conversation with Anke was well timed.
"My father's Eyes".
Another good song..
Beautifully done Steve. 🙂
Thanks Barbara...
Appreciated..
