Three Tune Tuesday: Let's hear it for the girls

avatar

I have not been a regular in the #ThreeTuneTuesday challenge from @ablaze, but here are some songs that I enjoy. I do enjoy going through some of the posts to provide a soundtrack when I am working from home.

I have a thing for female singers, but not always the really big names. Tastes in what makes a good singing voice can vary, but the singer may not be able to change. The wrong singer can totally put you off, but the right one can rip your heart out!

Aimee Mann - Save Me

I am not sure where I first hear Aimee, but this was a standout in the soundtrack of the film Magnolia. I need to watch it again some time. I have a couple of her albums and she writes some great songs. I have even attempted one at one of our acoustic sessions, but it needs some work.

Lulu - The Man Who Sold The World

This is a bit of a curve ball as I do not generally listen to Lulu, but we went to see her perform a couple of weeks ago. My other half got tickets for a show at the London Palladium and as her friend could not go I went instead. It was actually really good. She is 75 now and says this is her last tour, but she has had quite a career. She had her first hit with Shout at 15. Of course it is hard to better a Bowie song, but the man himself produced this. Along the way she has won Eurovision, married a Bee Gee and sung a Bond theme. She has had her own TV shows in the UK, but you just do not get that sort of variety show on TV these days. She can still sing.

Olivia Rodrigo - vampire

This is something more up to date. I heard it a few times on the radio and really liked it even through I do not really know her music. I played at an open mic last week and someone sang it there. It is definitely not an easy one to do with all those words and the high notes. I found this stripped back version that is nice. She does have a bit of a lisp, but the girl can sing. Music has to make you feel something and this works on me.

Rock on!

I dig me some Olivia. She writes some really great songs that hit me deep in the feels. It's almost like she knows what some of my life was like. I think both of her albums Sour and Guts are both really good.

I ought to check out her albums. There may well be more songs I will like.

She does a pretty good mix of upbeat pop and slower ballad styles with some angsty anger in there. Traitor is a really good song.

That's a nice selection. I love the Bowie version of The Man who saved the world but this is quite enjoyable by Lulu. She has had a pretty great career. I didn't realise Olivia could play the piano too. Very nice tune and different from her good 4 U song, where I loved the cheerleading in the video!

I don't know much about Olivia, but I shall check out more of her music. I am just not tuned in to much modern music as I don't listen to the radio much. There is always good music around and you just have to find it.
