Three Tune Tuesday: Girls just wanna play drums

This is part of the #ThreeTuneTuesday challenge started by @ablaze.

This post was partly inspired by @slobberchops exposing me to the band Brutus who have a female drummer who also sings. I was looking at other bands with female drummers. Of course there was The White Stripes with Meg, but I will skip them this time.

The Warning

Via the Drumeo awards I found The Warning who are three sisters from Mexico. Paulina, the drummer, also does at least some backing vocals. I need to check out more of their music.

Viola Smith

This is another all-girl band from 1939 featuring Viola who it seems was still playing at the age of 100. That is quite a kit she has with those two high up drums.

Karen Carpenter

As well as being an amazing singer Karen was a pretty good drummer. It's such a shame she died so young. There is some nice camera trickery on this so she could accompany herself.

Bonus

The lady in this band is not a drummer, but she is an impressive singer. Just wait a minute or so to see why. It caught me by surprise. Jinjer are from Ukraine.

There is always more music to experience. It can come from any time and anywhere in the world. When I was young we had to rely on a very few radio stations to find new artists, but now we all have access to everything. We need to bring more musicians to Hive so we can directly support them.

Rock on!

If you are talking about women and drums, I always think of Sheila E. She is pretty great. I got to see her twice when she was touring with Ringo. I took a deep dive into Brutus last week as well. Good stuff!

I nearly included her as I just watched this video. I saw her play with Prince.

Music is life, it frees one soul from pain and relaxes the mind, thanks for the Internet alot of music can be explore within a tingle of an eye. I want to believe we have musician on hive just that they have not be utilizing the platform to showcase their talent.

I remember some time ago @nathen007 did a post about female drummers, more contemporary ones and not in a band. Many of them were young girls and they were really cool. Unfortunately I can't find his post to show you coz it's so difficult to find posts on Hive particularly when you're on mobile

There are a lot of musicians who seem to just do stuff online these days and there are a fair few female drummers doing that. Nandi Bushell has been doing videos since she was about 8 and has since played with some top musicians as well as doing John Lewis ads. I saw her play at a Bowie tribute gig.

Probably. She's an experienced performer at about 13 now.

This may be the post you were thinking of. I may have seen some of those. On the Drumeo school I use there are quite a few ladies and they get some female professionals in to do lessons.

Jinjer, never heard of them but she can really sing. Didn't see that rough part coming!

Karen Carpenter died way too young, and what an amazing voice. I love hearing their music to this day.

Viola Smith, wow, never heard of her but she is entertaining. Lived a long life as well, interesting!

The Warning, wow! Great band, I love the hard sound, something I didn't see coming out of a three girl group. They rock!

Great picks, I'll have to check out more by The Warning and Jinger. Thanks!

I'm happy to introduce people to new music. I find some artists through what others feature. There will always be more out there.

Enjoy.

Those are not bands I listen to generally, but I may have heard the songs. I think there are more female drummers out there than most people would assume. I may do another post about them some time.

That was a fun triplet of drumming! I loved "The Warning", I mean who wouldn't love some warnings in their life 😝 Jokes apart they epitomize what I love to see in a band. Tight, good, and enjoying themselves. I wish I could play like that and with friends like that. If I was in UK I would come down once a month to play my bass with your drum 😇 The drummer was good, but I loved the bassist too. That scream quality of the drummer was good British Steel level!

I loved the drumming of Viola. The only words that were reverberating in my mind was "Rolling Thunder". Loved the tone of those Toms.

In the Karen Carpenter video the thing that really moved me is the happiness shining in her smile when she is drumming. She truly loves it :)

Jinger blew me over !!! Woah what was that - Poltergist is what came to mind!!! Such a beautiful tone on both the treatments!

I'd love to play with you. Drop by any time.

It was fun finding these. YouTube is an amazing resource even if they can be a little evil. I've found so much music on there.

True. If you are following the right people twitter is also good for discovery, or nostalgia. Currently there is a big poll happening for english music on twitter, a fun public poll of choosing a best song by knocking out all others through polls. The person putting it together has put a lot of effort to get it all done but it has been fun to revisit old and evergreen music. Painful when one needs to choose one when all four in the bracket are great songs :D
On Leo too I noticed the MusicOnLeo tag which is introducing me to good music.
I have not put my TTT post this week. Been really caught up on time. Was going to probably skip this week but now I am tempted to put up a post quickly. Let's see.

I'm avoiding Twitter these days. It's gone downhill and I need to spend less time online anyway. I have plenty to keep me entertained.

I think you can get away with a late TTT, or save it for next week.

I think I will put up one now. Just to keep a cadence of a post a week min. I have also started walking this week. Been fun with the Garmin Venu Sq2 Music. The Music version allows me to load podcasts so that I can listen to it while walking and don't need my phone with me.

Very nice, the Karen Carpenter solo was amazing, and I really loved that band of ladies from the 1930s. Since you didn’t include anything from Meg, I’ll leave you here with a favorite of the Stripes from back in the day:

I know people say she wasn't a great drummer, but the songs are still great.
