Out in London plus The Trouble Notes

avatar

After my evening in London on Thursday I was back down there the next day. I had tickets to see @thetroublenotes, but we thought we would see some other wonders.

A few weeks ago we were at Sutton Hoo where a Saxon ship burial was found. The actual treasure are in the British Museum, so we went to see them.

Helmet

This is the actual helmet that was found in lots of pieces. The wood of the ship and the body of the buried king had rotted away, but some things survived really well including his gold ornaments and silverware from distant lands.

Saxon silver

The museum was really busy as you would expect on Easter weekend, but it is so big, but you can avoid some of the crowds if you stay away from the most popular areas such as the Egyptian rooms. The African exhibits were great with items from lots of cultures.

Carnival costumes

Some of these items are controversial due to how they were obtained. The Benin bronzes were taken in a retaliatory raid after some Brits were killed. This is mentioned in the descriptions and talks are ongoing about how to deal with them.

Benin bronzes

After the museum we wandered through some of the leafy London squares that have some interesting memorials, including one to Ghandi.

Ghandi

We had an early dinner at a branch of Mildred's who do great vegan food.

Dessert

After that we went to Jamboree which is a small bar tucked down an alley near King's Cross station. I had not heard of it before. As we arrived @thetroublenotes were doing their soundcheck. After that I had a chat with violinist Bennet who I have chatted with a lot on Hive, but never met before. He and guitarist Florian have been touring the UK and are heading on to the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe.

The Trouble Notes

Their set was so full of energy and the music was wonderful. It is a mix of folk, jazz, pop and other influences. They were joined by the drummer from Perkelt who were playing later. She only had a brief time to rehearse with them, but did a great job.

Playing behind their heads

Bennet introduces the songs with stories of how they originated. I am not totally convinced they were based on fact, but we were entertained anyway. The guys hardly stopped moving with lots of jumping around whilst managing to play brilliantly.

I am not posting any video as I encourage you to go to their account and watch the videos they have posted. Please comment as they will enjoy the feedback and look out for them touring near you.

Perkelt

Perkelt describe themselves as 'pagan speed folk'. Unfortunately we had to leave after just one song as we had an early start the next day. I will look out for their future gigs. I would go to Jamboree again. It is a quirky little venue with good sound and you can easily get a good view. It is very convenient for us to get to.

Rock on!

I’ve been following their adventures on Hive and think I’ve got them on my favourites, so they pop up prominently on my feed. Great to hear they are as full of energy live. I’ll keep an eye out for them. Just checking the web…. Nothing nearby, Southampton in June perhaps?

It really hurts knowing that I lived for months a few blocks away (on Guilford St.) from the British Museum and never went there God knows why. Shame on me.

The British Museum is somewhere that has been hyped over and over times
I’d try to visit there someday
Visiting the UK will be a dream come true

It lives up to the hype. I've been to some big museums around the world and it's one of the best. I hope you achieve your dream.

Looks like a perfect day out to Zone 1 :) I went just once to a museum in London, and even then it was for a few minutes. Always wanted to carve out time to visit the various museums there but never got the chance. Did enjoy a quiet half hour in the Tate Museum Turbine room (I think that is what it is called, or was it the Engine Room ) Really enjoyed it.

I think I've only been to Tate Modern once. I am not so big on modern art. I've not been to some of the other galleries, but I've been to the main museums many times. It's amazing that they are free, but you have the option to give something. It would be a long walk down to South Kensington though. We are lucky to have so much within an hour or so of home. We may do some other trips when it is less busy.

The Turbine hall in Tate Modern is a revelation. It is a very large space that is given to one temporary large installation (just one piece) every few months. It is normally sponsored by a big enterprise. I was there for this one and it was fabulous. Both my wife and I are novices wrt modern art, but something made me check this out and it was fabulous. https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/unilever-series/unilever-series-olafur-eliasson-weather-project

I think when I was there they had an installation that included a crack in the floor. I'm not sure how they achieved that.

This is not true. I have myself clear over and over again in their discord server that we are not the same person.
We are different people. Biyimi just happened to introduce me to this platform. You can read through my introduction post to confirm that.

I am been accused for what I didn't do and I have made it clear to them in their discord server but they will not listen.

I dropped comments in communities I follow also. They didn't talk about that?

I replied comments, they didn't talk about that?

I dropped quality post, they didn't talk about that also?

And I have also made myself clear that it is not what they are thinking by me those list of recommended users. Of course there are other people I comments on that didn't upvotes me but I still comments on.

What else do you think I should do.

I am innocent of all this false accusations.

My reputation on this platform is at stake because of this false accusations
