Monday Drum Day: Heavy Hail
Happy Monday! I know it is the day many of us go back to work, but I counter that with some drumming in the evening. This week I needed to get my submission for the latest Drumeo member collaboration done. For January the song is something by Avenged Sevenfold, who are not a band I really know. This song is heavy and fairly fast, so it was a good workout for me. I needed to tweak a kit on my Roland TD07 as it needed a 'china' cymbal for certain accents.
It has taken me a while to get this done. I had lots of takes where I messed up early on. Then I got all the way through and realised I had not started the recording! This final take is far from perfect, but it will have to do. You may notice I slip out of time a bit and have to correct myself. That is something else I need to work on. I may not play this sort of music all the time, but it is a good workout.
You may also notice my new acoustic drums behind me. I could not have played this song on those as I do not have the cymbals for it and it might have caused some domestic strife from the noise. At the top of the video you can see some of my plectrum collection that are stuck to the shelves. I need to look at getting a better camera that I can position better. I do have new lights in the study/studio that make it a bit brighter.
At the weekend I went to The Music Centre in Bedford. They have a decent range of drum gear. I picked up a cymbal bag and some quieter drumsticks (rods). The latter may allow me to play at home more often and may also be good when playing with the band as I could drown them out otherwise. I will look to do a video demo soon.

Your Monday evening is much more exciting than mine. I have a school board meeting then I need to drive home in the dark through the ice and snow. It's always fun and exciting to get new gear!
Luckily my work does not tend to spill into my free time. Take care out there.
Nice way to end a Monday, have you thought about uploading your videos to 3speak they play automatically when someone opens your post, I have try it to store some videos although some times its a but buggy, would like someone improves it
Some of my videos are on 3speak, but this has to be on YouTube for the collaboration. I'm not keen on videos auto playing though.
The good thing is that you were able to get it done even though it took you a while

I dare say you are correct and that the acoustic drums would cause ructions!! Looking pretty fluid now though, getting good!
Cheers. I think I must be improving as I doubt I could have played that a year ago. I can't imagine playing a couple of hours like that. Mind you, I played a fair bit last night trying to get a decent take. Had a break to watch Only Connect 😃 I need to play regularly too build the stamina as well as the skills.
It's an exhausting thing is the drumming. Our old drummer insisted it was the reason he was stick thin which we didn't totally believe until years later after we had ended and he really did put on a lot of weight!
It's good you were determined to get the perfect recording for the Drumeo collab even though you had some fails while doing so, and it's actually good and I hope it does well in the collaboration. Have a nice week.
Whenever you post your songs like this, we are very happy to hear them and we also see that you have been working hard on all these things for a long time.

Ouch, from personal experience I completely sympathize with the "device not recording" faux pas. It is uncanny how it always happens when the takes are perfect, or the event cannot happen again :(. hats off to your effort of recording it anyways.

I should have checked the screen, but I was feeling frustrated with my playing at the time. This was challenging, but I am definitely improving.
