Have a bubbly (Bublé?) Christmas

Yes it is that festive time again. Personally I think it should be limited to a week, but it goes on a lot longer. My gift to you is this cheesy tune by Michael Bublé. It was selected as the December Drumeo student collaboration. This was quite a challenging piece. Their transcription is a level 5 and I am more of a level 2 or 3 player so I simplified it a bit.

The song has a swing feel that I am still working on. What I really need to do is to learn the song and then play it with more feel rather than trying to read it as I play, but that will take longer. I do feel that I am a little more relaxed in my playing though.

earDRUMS

I was using my earDRUMS earphones on this. I got them as part of the lifetime membership of Drumeo that I went for when it came time to renew. These are proper musician earphones that are designed for use when playing. I joined Drumeo about a year ago and have learned a lot already. They have enough material to last me for many years.

One of the instructors is Todd Sucherman who plays with the band Styx. I have signed up for a masterclass he is doing in London next year. That will be another new experience for me.

I hope to do lots more drumming in 2024 and we shall see what happens.

Woah! Matey you are really into the drumming!!! I need to refresh my bass skills soon if I ever want to have a chance to catch up with you on the rhythm section.

One of my fav Buble songs, as you can see I am quite a sucker for the Christmas vibe :) Buble is the only modern singer who has done justice to my old favourites.

Since these drums are electronic does it go through a chain? What drum set are they emulating for this song?

I could be up for a collaboration track some time. We could both do some guitar.

The drums have a load of sounds built in and this is one of the standard kits. They can so do MIDI so I could drive drums generated on the PC, but for these videos I keep it simple. One neat feature is Bluetooth so you can get backing tracks from a phone. I use my tablet that displays the drum tab too.

Once I get my practice reps in I will ping you for a collab as that would be fun.

He's not my usual thing, but sometimes these things have to be done. I do some swing tunes with the band, so need to work on it.

I have been wondering why Christmas feels so festive. My current hypothesis is that it has to do with the calendar. Around the world, most of us consider this to be the last month (even though many of our cultures start the local calendar on a different day).

The fact that it is that last month, with a lot of school and work holidays, with the weather being chilly in the Northern Hemisphere, makes it feel like a vacation season for the entire world. Even the most intense workaholic has no excuse not to spend time with loved ones at this time. And to add to this mix the fact that we have the softness and childlike wonder of the season with Santa, and sweets, and gifts etc. etc. All in all, we are all wrapped up in it .

In India there is a choice for sure, as not everything is Christmas-oriented other than in the malls. Still, it feels good to be festive at the end of the year, tying the happy feeling into the New Year celebrations before we hit the hamster wheel again. And due to the virtues of a Catholic education carols, and hymns hit the right nostalgic spots :) Oh, did I tell you I love Christmas :D

It's definitely an end of the year thing as most of us are home from just before Xmas until the new year. I just think it gets spun out for too long for commercial reasons. I don't think it's so much a religious thing for many people these days.

It's that time of the year again and, sure, the Bublè time. :D Just to know, we'll spend the Christmas lunch with the relatives of my hubby, included his uncle Luigi Tronci, who was the founder of the Ufip cymbals. :P

That's cool. I don't have any of those cymbals, but send thanks from the drummers.

Enjoy your Xmas.

You’re such a great drummer
You remind me of a high school friend that I don’t know his whereabouts anymore
He drums well too
Keep it up!

Who was singing underneath the drum sounds?

That's Michael Buble singing as I used a backing track.

Have a very merry Christmas and I think some people get more than carried away with it all. The magic has been overtaken by the commercial.

Wow! That's pretty complicated. Well done getting through it Steve. Wish I could find the time to do a course. I'm really rusty these days!

This is what I want to work on at the moment. I will still play some guitar though. I hope we can get some more gigs for the band so that I have more opportunities for drumming, but I may look at other projects too.

See you in the new year!
