Valerie Hiveseph Bass View For Jazz Derelicts April 2025

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

This is a combination of two versions made popular by Amy Winhouse. I know you like her.
Her several of her songs have a swing feel. It's actually rock shuffle. The term, "shuffle" implies a swinging rythm with a back beat.
The grandfather to this would be the jazz swing feel.
"Moon Dance" by Van Morrison is a pop-tune with swing feel.
Big Band uses both types (except when playing "latin" songs).
"All ABout That Bass" is an example of a shuffle. It's like a marching band shuffle IMHO. You see why people like it.

Thanks for watching and reading.

Nice. You can really change the mood of a song with some variations. Keeps it interesting for the musicians. It is a cracking song!

yeah, they made that song really interesting. One of the saxophone players wrote out a chart after he saw a slower version of the song. He asked us to combine it with the regular version. I like it.
The chart we have for the regular version shows the bass tacet for about eight measures. Nobody likes it. Every time I follow the chart as written, they think somethings wrong. I think it sounds proper on the recorded version when the bass drops out because the drums and everything else. When we do it live, it sounds weird. So, I took it upon myself to play something extremely different for those sections… as in BASS SOLO!!!

Muuuhahaha!!!!!!!
