Metallica: Through The Never / A visual and subrealistic spectacle (2013) Review [Eng - Esp]

A few days ago, I talked about a comedy movie linked to the rock genre and what it represents, under this premise I was thinking and remembering it well in my past I saw another movie, which takes these musical elements but shown in a completely different way, and presented in this case to a world famous band, directed to the thrash metal genre, that's right I mean the band Metallica, one of the first bands and musical genres I listened to when I was a teenager and also, one of those that has earned a little more my affection along with other bands like Megadeth or Slayer and also others far from other genres such as Iron Maiden in heavy metal, but returning to Metallia, I could say that it has been to date the band to which I have listened more music, preferably the first albums that are those that I liked the most, I enjoy the current ones but if I am honest not so much compared to the first 4 or 5 that had for me the greatest impact.

In the year 2016, by that time it was common for me to listen to them and have some of their merchandise, on shirts or logos and other accessories but years ago in 2013, the band decided to release a movie, which I had the opportunity to see yesterday, not only to relive old feelings but also to have a better basis, and structure when reviewing this post. And there are several elements that personally, on a nostalgic level I still enjoy but there are certain inconsistencies or one in particular, so I will be as objective as possible when talking about this at the time and in general and try to have an objective stance to what I saw, how I perceived it and how it would be to see it from the perspective of someone who does not know, so nothing of the band because the latter will take much weight so this time I bring you, Metallica: Through The Never.

Hace unos días atrás, hable sobre una película de comedia vinculada al género del rock y lo que representa, bajo esta premisa me quede pensando y recordándolo bien en mi pasado vi otra película, la cual toma estos elementos musicales pero mostrados de una manera completamente diferente, y presentados en este caso ante una banda mundialmente conocida, dirigida al género de thrash metal, así es me refiero a la banda de Metallica, uno de las primeras bandas y géneros musicales que escuche cuando era un adolecente y también, una de las que se ha ganado un poco mas mi cariño junto a otras bandas como Megadeth o Slayer y también otras alejadas a otros géneros como Iron Maiden en el heavy metal, pero volviendo a Metallia, podría llegar a decir que ha sido hasta la fecha la banda a la cual eh escuchado mas su música, de preferencia los primeros álbumes que son aquellos que mas me han gustado, disfruto los actuales pero si les soy honesto no tanto en comparación a los primeros 4 o 5 que tuvieron para mi mayor impacto.

En el año del 2016, ya para ese entones era común para mi tanto escucharlos como tener algo de su mercancía, en camisas o logos y otros accesorios pero años atrás en el 2013, la banda decidió sacar una película, la cual tuve la oportunidad de ver ayer, para no solo revivir antiguos sentimientos si no también para tener una mejor base, y estructura a la hora de reseñar este post. Y hay varios elementos que en lo personal, a nivel nostálgico aun disfruto pero hay ciertas incongruencias o una en particular, así que seré lo mas objetivo al hablar de esto en su momento y en general y tratare de tener una postura objetiva ante lo que vi, como lo percibí y como seria verlo ante la perspectiva de alguien que no sabe, así nada de la banda porque esto último tomara mucho peso así que esta vez les traigo, a Metallica: Through The Never.

Synopsis / Sinopsis

The plot focuses on Trip, a young man who works as a roadie, ie a person who is part of the staff, and is responsible for maintaining or distributing various elements that consolidate the structuring that take place at concerts, such as moving heavy equipment, electrical, use and maintenance of the same among other things ie a person of maintenance and support. Trip to the concert does not spend much time in which he is assigned the mission of looking for a kind of bag, this undertakes the journey after consuming some substances, and it is from here where it will become a mission something surreal and interesting.

La trama se enfoca en Trip, un joven que trabaja siendo un roadie, es decir una persona la cual es parte del staff, y esta encargada de mantener o distribuir varios elementos que consoliden la estructuración que se llevan a cabo en los conciertos, como mover material pesado, eléctrico, el uso y mantenimiento del mismo entre otras cosas es decir una persona de mantenimiento y apoyo. Trip al presentarse al concierto no pasa mucho tiempo en el cual se le asigna la misión de buscar una especié de bolso, este emprende el viaje después de consumir algunas sustancias, y es a partir de aquí en donde se convertirá en una misión algo subreal eh interesante.

Watching this movie yesterday, revived many memories quite nostalgic if you ask me, at a time when many things were simpler than I thought, but of course I had a different mentality and even with all that, certainly still present that same feeling to every song that the band played, I enjoyed it quite a lot in many ways, so much in the illumination, the camera movements, the special effects accompanied by the most emblematic songs belonging to the first albums in its majority as "Whiplash" "And justice for all" "Master of puppets" "One" "Ride the lightning" "Enter sandman" "Battery" among others each one having a significant impact, because in addition to having the special effects as they played these songs and along with the weight that carried each of them for his lyrics, also these were on par with what was happening in the plot and in contrast to what was happening to the staff guy or our protagonist, that contrast so interesting in which our protagonist must do his job but misses the show, and we as spectators accompany him but witnessed in part the show.

It is worth mentioning that this is not a typical film with a plot at best understandable to the general perception so to speak since the events that happen to our protagonist when doing his job could be related to recreations that occur within his mind due to drug use, which makes us doubt at all how real is what is being lived and what is not, on the other hand personally this film has several symbolic and metaphorical elements that have been present in the trajectory and career of Metallica as such and all the members that incorporate the band, these are aspects that I feel that can not be recognized or understood at first instance, or in its entirety by most unless you are a fan of the band and know most of what they have gone through in their musical career, and this is what I meant by seeing it from a perspective of a person not so fanatic or knowledgeable, because this is a film for a selective group, which on the one hand makes it lose weight when it comes to narrate what happens and create confusion, and on the other hand it becomes an interesting film for the fans, showing itself as an analogy of the band itself.

From my perspective, even though at the time and when I saw it again yesterday I understood these things, it is really inevitable not to enjoy the show from our perspective as spectators, while as a contrast we see how the protagonist does his job, but curiously every time they played a song depending on what the guy was going through, such musical lyrics what they did was to give more weight to what was happening in general, It is certainly an interesting vision, I think it is a film more than anything to enjoy and entertain, if you want to give it a chance and turn up the volume to the maximum and enjoy the journey so to speak, go ahead, although there are scenes that show some inconsistency and do not have a clear sense, which would be a negative aspect, for the one who interprets it.

Regarding the musical aspect, here I have no complaints, literally it is a concert and if you are a fan or connoisseur and tolerate or want to vary, and listen to this genre of thrash through this film, it is very well. The most iconic and well known songs of the band and those that have had more weight are played and are present, those of their old albums and some "current", in addition to this the handling of the cameras and the use of other elements whether pyrotechnic, symbolic with figures and lights make it gain more weight in a way, making it a visual spectacle in several ways and will depend on how it can be interpreted if you decide to give the film a chance.

The plot is quite simple, we can see the position of the errand boy or staff member who has to fulfill a job eh go to find something of utmost importance to the band, the interesting thing is how through his vision altered little by little by the effects of a certain substance, we find it difficult to understand what is real and what is not and this is where it becomes certainly interesting but at the same time confusing, I feel that from here it becomes more of a visual spectacle before what we can see while the band plays and we are immersed in this situation, adding a rare but interesting contrast, which certainly is inconsistent and perhaps can not get to like mainly those who are not quite fans or are not used to listening to this type of songs in general or maybe yes, it depends on how you can get to take it, I think it's great.

Ver esta película ayer, revivió muchos recuerdos bastante nostálgicos si me lo preguntan, en una época en donde varias cosas eran más simples de lo que creía, pero claro tenía una mentalidad diferente y aun con todo eso, ciertamente aun sigue presente ese mismo sentimiento ante cada canción que tocaba la banda lo disfrute bastante en muchos sentidos, tanto en la iluminación, los movimientos de cámara, los efectos especiales acompañados de las canciones mas emblemáticas pertenecientes a los primeros álbumes en su mayoria como "Whiplash" "And justice for all" “Master of puppets” “One” “Ride the lightning” “Enter sandman” “Battery” entre otras cada una teniendo presente un impacto significativo, porque además de contar con los efectos especiales a medida de que tocaban estas canciones y junto al peso que conllevaba cada una de ellas por su letra, también estas iban a la par con lo que estaba ocurriendo en la trama y en contraste con lo que le estaba pasando al chico del staff o nuestro protagonista, ese contraste tan interesante en el que nuestro protagonista debe cumplir su trabajo pero se pierde del show, y nosotros como espectadores lo acompaños pero presenciamos en parte dicho show.

Cabe mencionar, que esta no viene siendo una película típica con una trama a lo mucho entendible ante la percepción general por así decirlo ya que los acontecimientos, que le pasan a nuestro protagonista a la hora de hacer su trabajo podrían verse relacionados con recreaciones que ocurren dentro de su mente debido al uso de drogas, lo cual nos hace dudar del todo que tan real es lo que se está viviendo y que no, por otra parte en lo personal esta película tiene varios elementos simbólicos y metafóricos que han estado presente en la trayectoria, y carrera de Metallica como tal y todos los miembros que incorporan la banda, son aspectos que siento que no se podrán reconocer o entender a primera instancia, o en su totalidad por la mayoría al menos que seas un fanático de la banda y conozcas en su mayoría por lo que han pasado por su trayectoria musical, y a esto es con lo que me refería con verlo desde una perspectiva de una persona no tan fanática o conocedora, porque esta viene siendo una película para un grupo selectivo, lo que hace que por una parte pierda un peso a la hora de narrar lo que ocurre y crear confusión, y por otra se convierta en una película interesante para los fanáticos, mostrándose como una analogía de la banda en sí.

Desde mi perspectiva, inclusive aunque yo en su momento y cuando la volví a ver ayer entendí estas cosas, realmente es inevitable no llegar a disfrutar el show ante nuestra perspectiva como espectadores, mientras que como contraste vemos como el protagonista cumple su trabajo, pero curiosamente cada vez que tocaban una canción dependiendo de lo que el chico estuviera pasando, tales letras musicales lo que hacían era darle más peso ante lo que sucedía en general, es una visión bastante interesante ciertamente, yo creo que viene siendo una película mas que nada para disfrutar y entretener, si quieres darle una oportunidad y subirle el volumen al máximo y disfrutar del viaje por así decirlo pues adelante, aunque estén presente escenas que muestren cierta inconsistencia y no tenga un sentido algo claro, lo cual vendría siendo un aspecto negativo, para el que lo interprete.

Con relación al aspecto musical, aquí no tengo quejas literalmente es un concierto y si eres un fanático o conocedor y toleras o quieres variar, y escuchar este género de thrash a través de esta película, pues está muy bien. Se tocan y están presentes las canciones mas icónicas y conocidas de la banda y las que han tenido más peso, las de sus antiguos álbumes y algunos “actuales”, además de esto el manejo de las cámaras y el uso de otros elementos ya sean pirotécnicos, simbólicos con figuras y luces hacen que cobre mayor peso de cierta forma, convirtiéndolo en un espectáculo visual en varios sentidos ya dependerá de como se pueda interpretar si deciden darle una oportunidad a la película.

La trama viene siendo bastante simple, nos podemos ante la postura del chico de los recados o miembro del staff el cual tiene que cumplir un trabajo eh ir a buscar algo de suma importancia para la banda, lo interesante es como a través de su visión alterada de a poco por los efectos de cierta sustancia, nos costara entender que es real y que no y es aquí donde se vuelve ciertamente interesante pero a la vez confuso, siento que a partir de aquí se convierte mas en un espectáculo visual ante lo que podemos ver mientras la anda toca y nos sumergimos en esta situación, agregando un contraste raro pero interesante, que ciertamente es inconsistente y quizás no pueda llegar a gustar principalmente aquellos que no son del todo fanáticos o no están acostumbrados a escuchar este tipo de canciones por lo general o quizás sí, ya depende como se lo puedan llegar a tomar, yo pienso que es genial.
