Legendary Rock Songs: UNSKINNY BOP: POISON.
Theme:UNSKINNY BOP.
Disc:Flesh & Blood.
Year:1990.
The pretty boys of L.A. doing their thing. Their own peers of the Angelina scene hated them for apparently putting their overloaded image before the music and for being in certain way responsible for the jeers and criticisms towards that rock type plagued with make-up that reigned in the eighties very especially in the famous Californian city.
But the truth is that Poison knew how to turn a deaf ear to criticism and ended up becoming one of the most popular bands of their generation. Their tremendous melodic charm and pop appeal led them to compose a multitude of catchy and cheerful hard-glam rock songs, a vivid reflection of the party atmosphere of those years on the Sunset Strip. The story of “Unskinny Bop” has a lot of the clichés of those attractive years on the American West Coast.
One day the band was in their rehearsal room when the always cocky C.C. Deville showed up with a famous (and probably voluptuous) porn star on his arm. To impress the girl, the blond guitarist plugged in his guitar and began to improvise giving shape to this seductive riff. The rest of the band didn't want to be any less, especially the sex-symbol Bret Michaels, who started fabricating sexually charged phrases to also try to get her attention while Bobby Dall and Rikki Rockett put a striking rhythmic counterpoint to the hot “Rock stars meet porn star” scene.
Michaels didn't manage to charm the girl, but in exchange “Unskinny Bop” was born, which was chosen as the first single of the last great album of the “poisonous” group, their third full-length “Flesh & Blood”, being one of their most famous songs and a hit. Poison were born to have fun, to make up and to put chops poses in the photos, and “Unskinny Bop” is a good proof of it.
My people, thank you for reading me. Enjoy this report and especially this song which is one of the most legendary songs of this incredible band POISON. A thousand blessings. See you in a new post with more bands of these legendary rock songs editions.
