GARY MOORE

Theme:OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY.
Disc:Wild Frontier.
Year:1987

Guitar virtuoso Gary Moore is one of those instrumentalists who has it all: great technique, great taste and a special gift for songwriting. “Over The Hills And Far Away” is a great example of this, a majestic song in which the guitarist shows off his skills.

Belonging to his hard rock solo period -that one that would extend from “Corridors of Power” (1982) to “After the War” (1989)-, “Wild Frontiers” is one of his most respected albums by the rock public. “Over the Hills...” stood out above the rest of the album.

Cover Single

Moore's Irish origins came to light in the opening chorus, repeated several times throughout the song, and in its melody, both with a clear Celtic flavour. Perhaps for that reason the Finnish power metallers Nightwish decided to cover the song for a mini-album of the same title released in 2001 containing some unreleased and live tracks.

A very personal symphonic vision endowed with the unmistakable operatic touch of Tarja Turunen's voice. Nothing to do with Moore's original, pure electric and heavy rock that perhaps because of the not too brilliant decision of the guitarist to use a drum machine as drums in this album was somewhat damaged by a sound too flat and uniform. But nothing that a song of this magnitude can't overcome. Elegance and solidity in pure state, to infinity...and beyond.

Thanks for reading my people and I hope you like this incredible song of this great musician, it is worth mentioning that this song was covered in a more symphonic style by the band Nigtwish, so I invite you to look for and listen to this version as well. A thousand blessings.
