# History Of Rock Music: CREED - Nº1
If any current band can rub shoulders with the most hyped rock artists in history, it's Creed. The Florida band has managed to surprise everyone by selling out their albums like hot cakes. Their music is nothing new, it is simple hard rock played under the legacy of grunge, but it has conquered the Americans, and in what a way. More than twenty million albums sold there with only three albums is a really shocking fact. In spite of everything in our country they do not end up dazzling the audience, although with such a considerable bastion of sales in the English-speaking countries, little will matter to them that in the distant Spain their discs do not stand out the least in front of other releases.
Si algún grupo actual puede codearse con los artistas de rock mas hipervendedores de la historia, esos son Creed. La banda de Florida ha conseguido sorprender a propios y extraños al despachar sus discos como rosquillas. Su música nada tiene de novedosa, es simple rock duro tocado bajo el legado del grunge, pero ha conquistado a los norteamericanos, y de que manera. Mas de veinte millones de álbumes vendidos allí con tan solo tres discos es un dato realmente estremecedor. Pese a todo en nuestro país no terminan de encandilar a la audiencia, aunque con un bastion de ventas tan considerable en los países anglo-parlantes, poco les importara a ellos que en la lejana España sus discos no destaquen lo mas minimo frente a otros lanzamientos.
The guys debuted in '97 with “My Own Prison”, a work that in the middle of the post-grunge era ended up as a dart in the bull's-eye of success with the song “Torn! It is not possible to look for a palpable reason for their rise... promotion, MTV, and the usual, but they have given exaggerated results. That first album is already in almost six million American homes, and that was only the first step. “Human Clay”, his second album, was the confirmation of the response that his first album had produced among young people, so no one is surprised that it has exceeded 10 million copies sold in the USA, and continues to be sold at a good pace in the stores after four years.
Los chicos debutaron en el 97 con “My Own Prison”, un trabajo que en plena era post-grunge fue a parar cual dardo al centro de la diana del éxito con el tema “Torn!. Tampoco se puede buscar una razón palpable para su ascensión… promoción, MTV, y lo de siempre, pero han dado unos frutos exagerados. Aquel primer plástico ya se encuentra en casi seis millones de hogares americanos, y eso fue solo el primer paso. “Human Clay”, su segundo plástico, fue la constatación de la respuesta que había producido entre los jóvenes su primera obra, asi que a nadie le sorprende que haya rebasado los 10 millones de copias vendidas en USA, y continua despachándose a buen ritmo de las tiendas tras cuatro años.
It was the fourth best-selling album of that year in the U.S., going straight to number one on the charts and containing such radio-friendly singles as “Higher” and the ballad that vocalist Scott Stapp dedicated to his then-newborn son “With Arms Wide Open”. At the time, Creed were the biggest band in America in terms of sales, and of course, they had to keep exploiting the vein, getting the band on the soundtracks of the teen horror movies that have hit Hollywood in recent years. “Scream 3”, ‘The Faculty’... and later, to Woodstock, where they would share the stage with Robbie Krieger of the Doors, a band with which their singer collaborated, becoming one of the strongest candidates to take Morrison's place in a supposed reunion of the mythical combo.
Fue el cuarto álbum mas vendido de aquel año en los States, entrando directamente al numero uno de los charts y conteniendo sencillos tan radiados como “Higher” o la balada que el vocalista Scott Stapp dedico a su hijo entonces recién nacido “With Arms Wide Open”. En ese momento, Creed eran la banda mas grande de America en lo que a ventas se refiere, y por supuesto, había que seguir explotando el filon, colando a la formación en las bandas sonoras de las películas de terror adolescentes que han asaltado Hollywood en los últimos años. “Scream 3”, “The Faculty”… y después, a Woodstock, donde compartirían escenario con el mismísimo Robbie Krieger de los Doors, banda con la que precisamente colaboro su cantante, erigiéndose como uno de los mas fuertes candidatos a ocupar el lugar de Morrison en una supuesta reunión del mitico combo.

Perhaps what most separates the late Jim from Scott are the latter's Christian beliefs, frequently reflected in his lyrics. In continuous ascending line in spite of the departure of bassist Brian Marshall, they arrive in 2001 to continue earning millions with the advance of the song “My Sacrifice” and a new album, “Weathered”, which debuted again in the highest position of Billboard, the most reliable magazine of sales lists in the USA. In the first week alone it sold more than any other rock release of 2000. And it surpassed five million copies in just over three and a half months. In the face of such statistics there is little more to say.
Quizás lo que mas separe al malogrado Jim de Scott sean las creencias cristianas del segundo, frecuentemente reflejadas en sus letras. En continua línea ascendente pese a la marcha del bajista Brian Marshall, llegan al 2001 para seguir ingresando millones con el anticipo del tema “My Sacrifice” y un nuevo redondo, “Weathered”, que vuelve a debutar en la posición mas alta del Billboard, la revista de listas de ventas mas fiable de USA. Tan solo en la primera semana vendió mas que cualquier otro lanzamiento rockero del 2000. Y rebaso los cinco millones de copias en poco mas de tres meses y medio. Ante tales estadísticas poco mas queda que decir.
