#36 History Of Rock Music: PAPA ROACH: MILLIONS OF BROKEN HOMES.
Among the most recent bands born under the protection of the new metal, one of the ones that has enjoyed a more immediate response has been Papa Roach. We cannot compare their impact with that of Linkin Park, but their first work of relevance (their previous album “Old Friends From Young Ears” went totally unnoticed), has surpassed the chilling figure of 2 million copies sold only in the United States, and that is saying a lot for “debutants”.
Dentro de las mas recientes bandas nacidas al amparo del nuevo metal, una de las que ha gozado de una respuesta mas inmediata ha sido Papa Roach. No podemos comparar su impacto con el de unos Linkin Park, pero su primera obra de relevancia (su anterior plástico “Old Friends From Young Ears” paso totalmente desapercibido), ha superado a escalofriante cifra de 2 millones de copias vendidas solo en los States, y eso es decir mucho de unos “debutantes”.
“Infest“ is overwhelming rap metal with dark airs that showed all its power in the overwhelming videoclips of ‘Last Resort’, ‘Broken Home’ and ‘Between Angels And Insects’, where the cockroaches (”roach") were the protagonists in an environment of filth and harmful metallic noise. Already known in every corner of the planet thanks to these little bugs that appeared every now and then on Mtv, they started to promote the album on stages on both sides of the Atlantic, achieving a great response from the public.
“Infest” es rap metal apabullante de aires oscuros que mostro todo su poderío en los arrolladores videoclips de “Last Resort”, “Broken Home” y “Between Angels And Insects”, donde las cucarachas (“roach”) se erigían como protagonistas en un ambiente de mugre y dañino ruido metalico. Conocidos ya en todos los rincones del planeta gracias a estos bichitos que aparecían cada dos por tres en la Mtv, se lanzaron a promocionar el álbum en los escenarios de ambos lados del Atlantico, logrando asi mismo una gran respuesta de publico.
Even when they played in Madrid they got a full house, and made the walls of the Caracol hall crack, offering a show of true madness. Before they had stepped on the stage of Rock In Rio, it was rumored that by express request of Axl Rose who, as you all know, is lately very interested in modern metal, and who reappeared in style with the reformed Guns N' Roses in the aforementioned festival, where he had reigned ten years before.
Incluso a su paso por Madrid consiguieron un absoluto lleno, e hicieron resquebrajarse las paredes de una sala Caracol en la que no cabia ni un alma, ofreciendo un show de verdadera locura. Antes habían pisado el escenario del mismísimo Rock In Rio, se rumoreaba que por expresa petición de un Axl Rose que, como todos sabeis, anda últimamente muy interesado por la modernidad metalica, y que reapareció por todo lo alto con los reformados Guns N’ Roses en el susodicho festival, donde había reinado diez años antes.
Coby Dick and his crew were also recently seen at the Mtv Icon tribute to Aerosmith, where they performed a new-metalized version of the classic “Sweet Emotion”, confirming that they are one of the most prestigious and popular bands today, powerful stars for the industry and the fans. And they have just started in this, as it were. Their second album, “Lovehatetragedy” is already on store shelves and threatens to become a millionaire hit again.
A Coby Dick y los suyos les hemos visto también hace poco en el homenaje que el programa Icon de la Mtv brindo a Aerosmith, donde se marcaron una new-metalizada versión del clásico “Sweet Emotion”, confirmando que son una de las bandas de mas prestigio y tirada en la actualidad, poderosas estrellas para la industria y los fans. Y acaban de empezar en esto, como quien dice. Su segundo redondo, “Lovehatetragedy” ya esta en las estanterías de las tiendas y amenaza con volver a convertirse en un millonario suceso.
A more complex and elaborated work than the previous one, where spontaneity and simple unbridled rage were the general tonics. Perhaps trying to distance themselves from the criticisms about their simplicity, this new album shows a progression within the band's continuous tearing. It won't be long before we see another handful of zeros on their credentials.
Un trabajo mas complejo y trabajado que el anterior, donde la espontaneidad y la simple rabia desbocada eran las tónicas generales. Quizá intentando distanciarse de las criticas acerca de su simplicidad, este nuevo álbum muestra una progresión dentro del continuo desgarro del grupo. No tardaremos mucho en ver otro buen puñado de ceros en sus credenciales
