The originality of the proposal of this band, through whose veins runs Armenian blood, leads them to move away from many prefixed schemes and apparent clichés. With a couple of albums, System Of A Down have achieved prestige in the world metal scene. When 1998 saw their debut with their homonymous work, it already smelled like a smash hit. Not only for expanding the sonic coordinates in vogue, but for a manifest quality and a magical touch that made them stand out from the avalanche of clone bands that saturated the market.
La originalidad de la propuesta de esta banda, por cuyas venas corre sangre armenia, les lleva a alejarse de muchos esquemas prefijados y aparentes cliches. Con un par de discos, System Of A Down han logrado el prestigio de la escena metalera mundial. Cuando 1998 los vio debutar con su trabajo homónimo, aquello ya olia a exitazo. No solo por expandir las coordenadas sonoras en boga, sino por una manifiesta calidad y un mágico toque que les hacia desmarcarse de la avalancha de bandas clónicas que saturaban el mercado.
With their disturbed sound, captivating image, and songs with an innate strength accompanied by highly magnetic videoclips, little by little they were accumulating fame. They aimed high with cuts like “Sugar” or the stark mid-tempo “Spiders”, but they were still a second-tier band even when they obtained sales that exceeded the best expectations given the wildness of their proposal, recently reaching one million copies sold in the USA.
Con su perturbado sonido, cautivadora imagen, y canciones con una fuerza innata acompañadas de videoclips de alta carga magnetica, poco a poco fueron acumulando fama . apuntaron alto con cortes como “Sugar” o el descarnado medio tiempo “Spiders”, pero no dejaban todavía una banda de segunda fila aun cuando obtuvieron unas ventas que superaron las mejores expectativas dado lo cafre de su propuesta, alcanzando recientemente el millón de copias USA vendidas.
“Toxicity” appeared in 2001 ready to leave no one among its competitors, establishing itself as a great work of contemporary metal. The day of its official presentation with a free show in Los Angeles was attended by such a huge crowd that the place was overflowing and it ended without a concert and with the police charging. The album caught off guard, by its portentous demonstration of creativity, even those who had already been stunned by their previous work, as this one delved even deeper into the disorienting changes of schizoid riffs, the zigzagging choruses and the “usurpation” of the Muslim musical ancestry.

El dia de su presentación oficial con un show gratuito en Los Angeles acudió tal muchedumdre que el lugar se desbordo y aquello acabo sin concierto y con la policía cargando. El álbum pillo desprevenidos, por su portentosa demostración de creatividad, incluso a los que ya habían quedado anonadados con su anterior obra, pues esta ahondaba aun mas en los descolocantes cambios de rriffs esquizoides, en los zigzageantes estribillos y en la “usurpación” de la ascendencia musical musulmana.
A No. 1 in the United States, more than two million copies sold there and their participation as one of the big stars of the Ozzfest is not a coincidence either. Their popularity among young Americans was about to go down the drain when the band, through its singer, “posted” on its website some words not exactly supportive of the US government and politics after the terrorist attack of September 11. A later discupa calmed the mood, and the international scene is revolutionized with their particular fusion, that even if it ends up turning us all, it will not fail to confirm the greatness of the penultimate ball of metal.
Un n°1 en los States, mas de dos millones de copias servidas allí y su participación como una de las grandes estrellas del Ozzfest tampoco es una casualidad. Su popularidad entre los jóvenes americanos a punto estuvo de irse al garete cuando la banda, a través de su cantante, “colgó” en su pagina web unas palabras no precisamente de apoyo al gobierno y la política de EEUU tras el atentado terrorista del 11 de Septiembre. Una posterior discupa calmo los animos, y la escena internacional anda revolucionada con su particular fusión, que aunque acabe por volvernos a todos no va a dejar de confirmar la grandeza del penúltimo pelotazo del metal.
