Recreating a new card I301 Candy Bass [ENG/ESP]

Hello friends, hello RisingStar community! How’s the sound this week? I hope you’re having a lovely day, and above all, one filled with music. Today we return to drawing, or rather, to redesigning cards from the game, but in my own style. We’ll give them a touch that’s more modern and cartoon-like. Today, unlike other occasions, we’ll select a Common card, because being common doesn’t make it any less important. The star card of today: I301 Candy Bass.

Hola amigos, hola comunidad de RisingStar, ¿cómo va el sonido esta semana? Espero que estén teniendo un lindo día y, sobre todo, lleno de música. Hoy regresamos a dibujar, más bien a rediseñar cartas del juego, pero en mi propio estilo, así que les daremos un toque algo más moderno y cartoon. Hoy, a diferencia de otras ocasiones, seleccionaremos una carta Común, porque que una carta sea común no la hace menos importante. La carta protagonista de hoy: I301 Candy Bass.

I hope you liked the result of this card. As you can see, it’s a bass guitar—four strings and lots of pink color. I’ll share a small GIF animation with the drawing process and then explain a bit of the step-by-step to make it. I hope you enjoy it, just as I enjoyed drawing it.

Espero que les haya gustado el resultado de esta carta. Como ven, es un bajo, cuatro cuerdas y mucho color rosa. Les compartiré una pequeña animación GIF con el proceso de dibujo y después explicaré un poco del paso a paso para realizarlo. Espero que lo disfruten, como yo disfruté dibujarlo.

We take advantage of the base I’ve been using for all the Rising Star cards, and we add the instrument of this card: it’s a bass guitar with a very electric style, full of sharp corners that transmits a lot of energy. I almost imagine it playing with a Kiss song in the background. I used the original card’s drawing as a direct reference, although I changed the structure and perspective a bit.

Aprovechamos que tenemos la base que estoy usando para todas las cartas de Rising Star ya hecha, y agregamos el instrumento de esta carta: es un bajo con un estilo muy eléctrico y lleno de esquinas puntiagudas que transmite mucha energía. Quizás lo imagino sonando con una canción de Kiss de fondo. Utilicé como referencia directa el propio dibujo de la carta original, aunque cambié un poco la estructura y la perspectiva.

We continue with the Luck identifier 🍀. In this case, we’ll keep the round design with the clover and also add its value (1). As you can see, I keep the lines as natural as possible.

Seguimos con el identificador de Luck 🍀. En este caso mantendremos el diseño redondo con el trébol y además le colocaremos su valor (1). Como ven, mantengo las líneas lo más naturales posibles.

Now it’s time for the alphanumeric identifier of the card and its name. I’m using an invented typography that I create with the help of the sans-serif font available in Ibis Paint, the program I’m drawing with.

Ahora viene el turno del identificador alfanumérico de la carta y el nombre. Estoy usando una tipografía inventada que hago con ayuda de la sans-serif que se encuentra disponible en Ibis Paint, el programa en el que estoy dibujando.

It’s time to lower the opacity of our drawing to work on the line art of the card.

Es turno de bajar la opacidad de nuestro dibujo para trabajar en el line art de la carta.

For the line art, I’ll be using a default brush from Ibis Paint, making slightly broken and natural lines, but without exaggerating, just enough so they look organic.

Para el lineart estaré usando un pincel por defecto de Ibis Paint y haciendo líneas algo rotas y naturales, pero sin exagerar, simplemente para que se vea orgánico.

We erase our sketch lines and now we have the clean line art ready to start coloring.

I’ll start with the body of the bass, using that characteristic bubblegum pink color. I’ll also add very bright and saturated highlights, as well as different perspective planes on the body, so it resembles a smooth material.

Comenzaré por el cuerpo del bajo con ese color rosa chicle característico. Además, le estaré haciendo luces muy altas y saturadas, así como distintos planos de perspectiva en el cuerpo, para que recuerde un material liso.

I’ll color the neck in black and add some gray details on the tuning pegs. I’ll also take the opportunity to finish the clover and the Luck identifier circle in green. I’m trying to achieve a shiny effect in each section of the card.

Colorearé el brazo de negro y algunos detalles grises en las clavijas. Además, aprovecharé para terminar de una vez y con color verde el trébol y el círculo del identificador de Luck. Estoy tratando de lograr un efecto de brillo en cada sección de la carta.

All that’s left is to make the body of the card, for which I’ll be using the same pink as the guitar. I’ll also add not only a shiny effect but a handmade texture with waves in different shades of pink.

Solo queda hacer el cuerpo de la carta, para el que estaré usando el mismo rosa de la guitarra. Además, le agregaré no solo efecto de brillo, sino una textura creada a mano con olas en distintos tonos de rosa.

The background will be simple and flat in gray tones, and on this background we’ll add a red ribbon. That way our fan art will be ready. I really enjoy making these Rising Star Game card designs, I think the game has a lot of potential and we should create more art around it. Well, I hope you liked it too.
