Afri-Tunes week 104: Cover by soniadee

Hello beautiful people of Afri- Tunes, my name is @soniadee. And this is my first entry in this community. I am excited to be a part of Afri-Tunes community and here is my entry for week 104.

I did a cover of “Fire on the Mountain” by Asa, which was released in the year 2007.

Asa is a musician born in Paris and Nigeria, and for the past years she has recorded beautiful and meaningful songs. I specifically chose the song "Fire on the Mountain" because it reflects the current situation of the country.

Upon listening to the song, one can interpret a deep meaning behind the lyrics. Asa accurately portrays the corruption and insecurity present in the country.

The metaphoric phrase "Fire on the Mountain" symbolizes the unstable and concerning state of the country. The song sheds light on the ongoing country’s chaos such as insecurity, corruption, tribal conflicts, and embezzlement of public funds. Despite being aware of these issues, the masses feel powerless to make a change and are forced to adapt to the circumstances. Our hands are tied, and our voices go unheard. This problem is not leading to the growth of the country, but rather to its downfall and regression.

She also mentioned how people are being massacred by religious sects, and people simply watch without taking action. The government, despite promising to intervene, actually are the ones aiding and supporting these sects. As ordinary citizens, what can we do but watch?

She also mentioned the lackadaisical attitude of the people amidst these chaos, how the people are indifferent to the chaos surrounding them, choosing to adapt to the situation rather than fight against it, as they had become accustomed to the country's circumstances.

Through it all, Asa has shown that music serves not only as entertainment, but also as a way to convey a powerful message and analyze our surroundings. Despite the current situation, I believe there will be hope and light at the end of the tunnel. And I do hope you enjoy this song.
