Dragon Ball fue una de las series animadas favoritas de mi infancia. Tenía yo una colección DVD de todos los capítulos, películas y especiales relacionados con esta caricatura japonesa. Pero había algo, más allá de la animación, que me enganchaba y no paraba de oír: la música introductoria. Antes de que cada episodio iniciara, se disparaba esa intro maravillosa, en la que se escucha, en un tono bastante alegre, una canción de alrededor de un minuto de duración. Por otro lado, está el Ending: la secuencia final de la historia, también en canción, que a diferencia de la otra muestra nostalgia.

En esta oportunidad, repasaré un poco de aquellas épocas con estas dos piezas que albergan un poco de esa belleza musical ochentera, o al menos parte de aquel estilo.

Dragon Ball was one of my favorite animated series of my childhood. I had a DVD collection of all the episodes, movies, and specials related to this Japanese cartoon. But there was something, beyond the animation, that hooked me and I couldn't stop listening: the introductory music. Before each episode started, that wonderful intro was triggered, in which a song of about a minute's duration was played in a rather cheerful tone. On the other hand, there is the Ending: the final sequence of the story, also in song, which unlike the others shows nostalgia.

In this opportunity, I will review a bit of those times with these two pieces that harbor a bit of that eighties musical beauty, or at least part of that style.

La Fantástica Aventura es el título original en español latino de la intro de Dragon Ball. Para mí, esta es la mejor versión después de la original. Esto porque captura de una manera más exacta lo que dice la letra japonesa. Sé que es difícil mantener una relación intrínseca cuando los idiomas son distintos por la lógica de la traducción; de alguna manera, una pieza musical debe mantener sus arreglos concordantes con la propia lírica, o al menos es lo que pienso. Con esta joya de intro pasa algo muy singular, y ahora mismo te diré por qué.

La versión en japonesa de la intro de Dragon Ball nos muestras un bosquejo de las piezas características del anime; en primer lugar, la gran aventura de Goku y sus amigos, luego, las esferas mágicas que conceden deseos, la nube voladora, los monstruos o enemigos, etc. En esencia, la versión en español latino conserva, con energía y fulgor, cada uno de estos elementos, añadiendo otros para que no exista una disonancia en el ritmo. No es lo mismo cantar en español que en japonés. Pero, para que lo puedan atestiguar, les dejaré la intro original a continuación:

La Fantástica Aventura is the original title in Latin Spanish of the Dragon Ball intro. For me, this is the best version after the original. This is because it captures more accurately what the Japanese lyrics say. I know it is difficult to maintain an intrinsic relationship when the languages are different because of the logic of translation; somehow, a piece of music must keep its arrangements consistent with the lyric itself, or at least that's what I think. With this gem of an intro, something very unique happens, and right now I'll tell you why.

The Japanese version of the Dragon Ball intro shows us a sketch of the characteristic pieces of the anime; first of all, the great adventure of Goku and his friends, then, the magic spheres that grant wishes, the flying cloud, the monsters or enemies, etc. In essence, the Latin Spanish version preserves, with energy and flare, each of these elements, adding others so that there is no dissonance in the rhythm. Singing in Spanish is not the same as singing in Japanese. But, so that you can attest to this, I will leave the original intro below:

Si intentas cantar mediante los subtítulos, podrás notar que se hace un poco difícil por la conjugación de palabras y la letra de la canción. No obstante, notamos que en japonés esto no sucede; el cantante puede exclamar con tranquilidad mientras entona la canción. Hay un poco más de fuerza en el tono, según lo que puedo notar. De esta versión surgen las diversas adaptaciones; entiéndase adaptación, a la "mejor manera" en la que una canción se transforma de un idioma a otro, sin alterar su esencia original.

¿Cómo suena la versión es español latino? Juzga por ti mismo:

If you try to sing along with the subtitles, you may notice that it becomes a bit difficult because of the conjugation of words and the lyrics of the song. However, we notice that in Japanese this does not happen; the singer can exclaim calmly while intoning the song. There is a little more force in the tone, as far as I can tell. From this version arise the various adaptations; adaptation being understood as the "best way" in which a song is transformed from one language to another, without altering its original essence.

How does the Latin-Spanish version sound? Judge for yourself:

Esta versión se adapta de forma perfecta a la original; la letra y los ritmos conjugan y, en algún momento, te encuentras cantando. Sientes esa energía y, de alguna manera, te ves inmerso en la historia. Supongo que para lograr esto, quienes se encargaron de adaptar la canción estudiaron cada uno de sus aspectos para mantenerse fiel a ella. Caso contrario ocurre en la versión en castellano y en la versión en inglés. Para muestra de ello, les comparto la última de la que les hablo:

This version is perfectly adapted to the original; the lyrics and rhythms match and, at some point, you find yourself singing along. You feel that energy and, somehow, you are immersed in the story. I suppose that to achieve this, those who were in charge of adapting the song studied each of its aspects to remain faithful to it. The opposite is true for the Spanish and English versions. As a sample of this, I share with you the last one I am talking about:

La versión en inglés difiere casi en su totalidad de la canción original, pero le agrega algunos recursos para complementar la letra. La batería se escucha con bastante claridad; creo que acá quisieron apegarse a un estilo con más rock, o más americano. Debo admitir que me gusta; los arreglos suavizan la tonada original. Sin embargo, sigo creyendo que la versión latina es la mejor después de la japonesa.

Por supuesto, lo mismo pasa con el ending de Dragon Ball. Hay diversas versiones adaptadas según el idioma y el continente. Para esta ocasión en particular, mostraré mi versión favorita:

The English version differs almost entirely from the original song but adds some resources to complement the lyrics. The drums can be heard quite clearly; I think that here they wanted to stick to a more rock style, or more American. I must admit that I like it; the arrangements soften the original tune. However, I still think that the Latin version is the best after the Japanese one.

Of course, the same goes for the Dragon Ball ending. There are several versions adapted according to language and continent. For this particular occasion, I will show my favorite version:

Romance te puedo dar es el título en español del ending latino de Dragon Ball. En este, la esencia del anime es dominada por un toque más nostálgico, con una letra más apegada al espíritu libre de la juventud y el romance. Recuerdo que cuando la escuchaba, al final de cada episodio, sentía una especie de tristeza en mi corazón. Mis hermanos y yo cantábamos al unísono, brincando en la cama, para destacar ese gusto tan maravilloso por la sonata final de esta clásica animación. Fueron momentos de verdad bonitos.

¿Cuál para ti es la mejor versión de las canciones de Dragon Ball?

Romance te puedo dar is the Spanish title of Dragon Ball's Latin ending. In this one, the essence of the anime is dominated by a more nostalgic touch, with lyrics more attached to the free spirit of youth and romance. I remember that when I listened to it, at the end of each episode, I felt a kind of sadness in my heart. My siblings and I would sing in unison, jumping on the bed, to emphasize that wonderful taste for the final sonata of this classic animation. Those were truly beautiful moments.
