In the world of fame and music, the first thing that shines, although perhaps overrated, is appearance. The social pressure for "an extraordinary physique" is sometimes worth more than, for example, the song itself that is sung. At least the majority of the singers that I follow tend to look very good: looks that are intended to make an impact on the eye, sometimes with little or a lot of clothing, glamor and sculpted bodies. Much of this is evident, for example, in artists like Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Shakira, Tylor Swift, etc. It is common then to see them in attractive clothes that shine with sensual dances and beautiful voices. However, there is one singer in particular who breaks this pattern: her name is Lizzo.
Lizzo, unlike the aforementioned, does not have a physique that seems standard a priori; she is chubby, is there something wrong with that? Of course not! What seems extraordinary to me is the way she shows herself as a woman who, even if she is overweight, can be just as beautiful, sensual and talented as the typical pattern to which we are already accustomed. She doesn't hide anything from herself, she doesn't have to because, as she says in the lyrics of her songs, she has learned to love herself; and this is what makes her an exceptional artist.

I met this singer in her Pop stage. MTV was largely my door to international music. Lizzo managed to outshine me with her personality; quite fresh and seductive, empathetic and empowered, funny and genuine. Her music videos are a reflection of what her spirit transmits from her: while she sings and raises her spirits, she dances showing her body without fear of what they can say about her. Let's be clear, this is not easy when we are usually singled out for our appearance; we are intimidated by what others say or can say, and that fear becomes the cage of our lives. Is it worth living in a cage? Of course not. Whether we are fat, thin, short or tall, each one can shine; Lizzo is a great example of this.
Right now we are going to take a trip through some Lizzo songs that empower the message of acceptance. If she does it, why can't we? In her music there is a more than clear message: she accepts herself, shines, smiles and lives for you. We are all special, we harbor an inner light that, even if we do not see it, coexists with our hearts. This is the message I get from “Special”, one of my favorite pieces of music by Lizzo and the one I usually listen to in the evenings while getting fresh air. There is a part of the letter that catches my attention and says:
In case nobody told you: you are special…
Kind of sad but damn, you're still great…This is why Special is a beautiful song; Lizzo sings of a life without social pressures in which we matter as long as we value ourselves. She intones it from her own experience, perhaps recounting that overcoming of hers that made her such an imposing woman. In the music video she is a superhero. Lizzo usually uses the comic resource to get us a laugh, she is extraordinary! Few singers overflow that empathy that she spreads.
Extracto de About Danm Time. Lizzo.
Lizzo is an excellent promoter of self-love. We are human beings and we usually fall into depression for not being as "perfect" as society demands. What if we are very fat, what if we are very skinny, what if we are very ugly... why fall into such dark dilemmas that only seek to harm? In the song "About Danm Time" Lizzo gives us an example of how we really look "sexy", and she is not referring to sculpted bodies, but to the happiness that comes when we feel very happy:
Turn up the music
Turn off the lights
I have the feeling
That today I will be fine
Excerpt from About Danm Time. Lizzo.Nothing better than escaping from the pressures with fun, spending time with care and love to show the world that we have what they don't see and what they lack. That's what really makes us sexy! In the music video we can see Lizzo dancing in a sparkly sequined dress… as few people dare when they are constantly pointed at. An example to follow? I think so.
Much of that current towards self-love is also reflected in “2 Be Loved”; and it is that sometimes we repress ourselves so much that we think we will never find that loving side, as Lizzo herself intones in the lyrics of this song. Are we ready to be loved? I think that this conception is wrong because, if we love each other little, we will value a true love. Hence such a beautiful message... When are we ready to love? The idea is: never stop doing it.
Among so many current things that we live with, we get a vague idea of love. So we isolate ourselves from the feeling, either out of insecurity or fear of getting hurt; I say this partly because sometimes I think about it and, in the repeated idea of feeling comfortable being alone, I think that it is the best: friends and happiness without commitment but… until when? It is a questioning that comes at some point and it is where we ask ourselves the same question that Lizzo asks herself in the lyrics of this song:
Are we ready to be loved? As Lizzo sings her commanding voice through her chorus, the background chorus, which I assume represents her conscience, tries to uplift her and erase her insecurities. What a song! That's why it's one of my favorites.
Tal como dice Lizzo en “Good As Hell”:
Here and now I must tell you: You have enough to climb to the top! In Lizzo I see inspiration… a musical inspiration! Above all, his message of empowerment goes to the spirit of women, as we know, lately stereotypes have flooded the networks about false beauty and it is no secret to anyone that this also covers the spectrum of music. It's sad when a talented person is hidden from the world because they apparently don't meet the standards. Not at all! If you're a singer or want to be, don't put physical appearance above your talent, you can shine just the way you are! Remember: you are special, and being special you can feel good, and if you feel good you are ready to be loved. As Lizzo says in “Good As Hell”:
You know you are a star and you can touch the sky... The touch of humor with which Lizzo sings to raise self-esteem is, without a doubt, her greatest strength. She is a wonderful example that beauty, true beauty, is capable of inspiring and healing hearts.

Nice!
It is true that many of the artists we know of have that physical appearance that is pretty and handsome. Sometimes characterized by shiny clothes or good body structures like boots and hips or slbroad shoulders and good heights.
But I have special affection for people who are not intimidated by peer pressure. From your description, Lizzo is one who is in love with herself and accepts herself the way she is. It is awesome and I love her for that. She is got a great talent, having listened to her songs here.
Good review friend. Best regards
