50th Anniversary of Dark Side of the Moon, Reminiscing Pink Floyd and the best selling album of our time
As the record spins, we hear the sounds of life: heartbeats, cash registers, voices, and cries, all leading up to a powerful opening bass riff and a soulful slide guitar. The first words, "Breathe, breathe in the air, don't be afraid to care," introduce us to the best-selling album ever,
Dark Side of The Moon by Pink Floyd. Released 50 years ago, this album has captivated listeners worldwide. I was 15 when I first heard "Breathe" on the radio, a sound that introduced me to Pink Floyd and inspired me to learn the guitar.
The album was unlike anything else, with a mix of music, voices, synthesizers, heartbeats, haunting saxaphone, captivating female vocals, and timeless lyrics. It was a sensory explosion, making it hard to imagine what the artists were thinking.
Hearing "Time" on my sound system was a revelation, with its combination of instruments, starting with Roger Waters' tic toc harmonic bass riff, followed by chimes and meticulous percussion using an array of toms, leading into the iconic lyrics about how we spend our time.
This album became a part of me. Seeing Pink Floyd live, experiencing the visual and auditory spectacle of their most famous album, gave me chills. It's clear why this album has sold so many copies worldwide; its impact is unparalleled.
I've had the opportunity to see Pink Floyd perform without Roger Waters, as well as a Roger Waters concert of Dark Side of The Moon. Both experiences were unforgettable. Even after 50 years, this album still gets playtime on my turntable. This Saturday we are going to be seeing the Pink Floyd Experience at our Planetarium to get a 50 year recap of the greatest album ever.
I have a 20th anniversary CD edition. It is such a great album that still sounds good. They were such innovators. I never got to see them live and feel I missed out. I did go to a big exhibition of their stuff in London a few years back. The Black Strat was there as well as various stage props.

They were amazing live the sound and production was unbelievable. I saw Roger Waters with my daughters so that was some special moment for me. Yes indeed they were innovative. The 20th Anniversary CC would be a classic collectable! Listened to the album while blogging today and Saturday night we are checking out the Pink Floyd experience with some friends should be entertaining 😊
