Three Tune Tuesday - Loop Masters El Ten Eleven

avatar

Here is a live loop master duo for this #threetunetuesday by @ablaze

I first heard El Ten Eleven audio only and thought they were just a trio or something with a drummer bassist and guitar. Then I randomly watched a live video of them and realized it was just two brothers. One is the drummer the other plays a double neck bass/guitar with a crazy looper pedal setup. Most of what I think are guitar sounds are actually from the bass with pitch pedals and strange harmonics.

Here's a full live set. As you can see all the loops are recorded live and tweaked during the performance. They said in the interview they just remember the loops in their heads and haven't tried writing any of it down in tabs or music form. Just lots of practicing lol.

I mostly listen to their full audio albums while I work. Whenever I see one of their videos I have to watch til the end because its so mesmerizing seeing how on time the bassist/guitarist is using the pedals. Their youtube is also interesting for material where the bassist will randomly play a rush album from start to finish for fun.

That's all for now thanks for watching and listening :-)

Never heard of them. Listening while I work. Very clean, well-composed, some really enjoyable rhythm-play. Well placed harmonics and subtle tones. I dig.

Pretty good for just two brothers and a looping setup.

Shit, didn’t even realize that. I love loop stations. I have one actually, but never practiced enough to get my cut-in’s timed quite right somehow. It’s actually on my bucket list or whatever, once my kids get a little older, to take that sucker out and get good at it. I can play bars and shit either way, but I would love to play lead to my own rhythm! Anyway, I’m glad you shared this. I’ve noticed a lot of the music you share is kind of obscure and generally instrumental - I’ve been really enjoying finding these “new” bands.

I'm terrible with loopers too I have one in the closet that hasn't been used enough. I tend to like instrumental bands more unless the voice is just right and not too placed front and center in the mix to be annoying.

I used to really feel like vocals were critical, probably frontman’s bias 🤣 But honestly since you’ve been sharing these bands - or at least, since I started noticing them - it’s really changed what I look to get out of music. I had not really realized how much mental focus was being sapped by my subconscious mind processing lyrics - instrumental bands seem to give that flow and motivation, but without draining your energy.
Pretty rad!

Usually when I play my instrumental bands around people after around 5 minutes they start asking where's the singer? I suppose many nonmusiciam music listeners can relate to lyrics more than the musical composition. Basically anything that gets top play for consumers is all vocals with the music simplified and placed way in the background ie Saylor Twift and Yebonce lol.

Very true. I have room in my heart for both styles, to be sure, but I’m a big fan of what I call (or think of as) soundscapes. That is to say, instrumentals that create a sort of environment in your mindscape. El Ten Eleven (and several other bands I’ve found subsequently) do a great job of exactly that. Cheers!

This was definitely some pretty wild stuff. I'll admit, I got quite caught up in the third song, Meta Metta

I have no idea how he can get a bass guitar sounding like that. Must be the fretless combined with a digitech pitch pedal and some other strange effects.

These brothers are funky as fuck, love it.... Really really good listening.. I'll definitely be checking out some of their other work, sounds like great music for having on in the background as you are getting a few things done.
