Ghost City – A Synthwave Instrumental
In an odd corner of the global economy, a nation's financial system revolves around an endless cycle of skyscraper construction. The government encourages citizens to invest their savings in new residential towers, marketing them as secure, tangible assets. But reality follows a different path.
Rather than serving as homes, these apartments become purely speculative investments. Cultural norms demand ownership of new properties, creating a market where pre-owned units sit vacant, losing value simply for being "used." Developers capitalize on this psychology by pre-selling units in unbuilt towers. They collect deposits then divert these funds into risky investments instead of construction.
When these developers inevitably declare bankruptcy, investors are left holding worthless contracts for apartments that will never be completed. Meanwhile, the existing towers stand empty, slowly deteriorating. Entire cities of vacant buildings create an eerie urban landscape. Despite this ongoing crisis, new development projects continue to emerge. Developers announce plans to level mountains and redirect rivers for the next wave of towers. And investors, fearing the devaluation of their currency, continue to pour money into these schemes, desperately searching for solvent construction companies to build their dreams.
The only people who "inhabit" these ghost cities are disembodied spirits of the workers who died in accidents while constructing the skyscrapers. Now they float endlessly through the empty cities inspecting their craftsmanship. If anyone does dare live in these empty buildings, they will be treated with a lightshow of strange spirit entities floating around them all night.
