Best of #Straturday

avatar

It's been a while since I posted for #straturday as I have tennis elbow, but eventually it will heal and I'll be back to posting. In the meantime here are some of the better #straturday's from the past

This one is in a minimal darkwave post punk style with hints of new wave. The stratocaster featured here is my home made partsocaster made with a mish mash of parts collected over a few years. This is also my favorite stratocaster style guitar as its setup perfectly.
This one kind of falls into the post punk light rock genre. Here I use my Fender Stratocaster Plus that has a nice two point tremelo and ball bearing nut making it easy for bending notes while staying in tune.
Here is one in a surf rock style. This one features quite a few of my electric guitars, including all my strat style guitars. I have a musicman petrucci 7 string that is basically a strat shape, my partsocaster, my Fender Stratocaster Plus and my G&L Comanche (Leo Fender's latest version of a strat).
This is just an improvisation featuring a bunch of different effects chains throughout the impro. The styles kind of range from grunge to prog and post rock. The process for making this one was to just play a dry signal to a metronome first then slice up the segments and apply different effects to each section via Bias FX 2. Finally since it follows a metronome I could easily play midi drums over it later on via my Roland Handsonic controller and Toontrack for the drums.
Here's a fun electronic video game style using my Fender and Partsocaster along with a few of my G&L Guitars. The effects pedal I used to get the synthy sound effects is the Eventide Pitchfactor. I had just recently discovered software that lets you control its step sequencer easier than using the knobs and I was able to dial in all the different sounds for this song using that software and the pedal directly into my DAW.
This one falls under the category of synthwave and lofi where I used the Meris Enzo pedal to turn the guitar into different styles of synth. I also added some lofi filters to the drums to degrade them a bit to sound less traditional.
This one has a Russian doomer vibe to it. To me Russian doomer music sounds like a mix of post punk, surf and new wave. Most of the parts of this song are on my partsocaster but I did also bring in my plastic midi guitar to control a synth to add more ambience to the background.

There's a few others but these are my favorites. Hopefully this year I can add quite a few more to the list. Thanks for listening :-)

The synth in the 1st video somehow reminded me of a musically unrelated tune: Monosynth by Joy Electric. I really dig the surf rock themes in the 3rd video.

That one has a fun sound to it. I love that oldschool sounding synth style, come to think of it I might have been to a joy electric concert once... many years ago.

I've been trying to figure out in my subconscious how to get my guitar recording rig back up and running while a baby is crying in the background lol. Might just be electrics for the next year as acoustics will have some background vocals in them.
