Musical Monday: Karina (Spn / Eng)
Greetings everyone and happy Monday; I hope you have a fantastic week. Today, I’m sharing three songs by a Venezuelan singer-songwriter who enjoyed great success in the 80s; naturally, I wanted to share her music as part of the MUSICAL MONDAY initiative, a space hosted by @eugelys.
KARINA formó parte de esa camada de artistas, músicos, cantantes y demás que formaron parte del boom de la buena música en los 80, explosion creativa que global, y Venezuela también tuvo ese crecimiento exponencial en el arte, y más específicamente en la música. .
KARINA was part of that generation of artists, musicians, and singers who fueled the 1980s boom in quality music—a global creative explosion—and Venezuela, too, experienced that exponential growth in the arts, and more specifically in music.
Una de las principales características de KARINA es su voz, de ahí que su apodo sea LA VOZ, además de ser una persona con mucho carisma, ya que es muy agradable. La calidad interpretativa de ella ha quedado demostrada a lo largo de sus más de 4 décadas de carrera, tiempo durante el cual se ha mantenido activa, dentro y fuera de Venezuela. En los tempranos 80 surgió y fue muy conocida, ya que tanto en la televisión nacional como en la radio, se presentaban y oían sus canciones, las cuales eran de un pop liviano y bonito. Dicho lo anterior, a continuación les presento mis tres canciones de hoy.
One of KARINA's defining characteristics is her voice—earning her the nickname "LA VOZ" (THE VOICE)—as well as her immense charisma and pleasant personality. Her vocal prowess has been proven over a career spanning more than four decades, during which she has remained active both in Venezuela and abroad. She rose to prominence in the early 1980s, becoming a household name as her songs—characterized by a light, lovely pop sound—were frequently featured on national television and radio. With that said, here are my three song picks for today.
Mis canciones para este Musical Monday / My songs for this Musical Monday
I’m kicking off this MUSICAL MONDAY with my favorite song by KARINA: the beautiful “LA NOCHE ES MÁGICA.” It was composed by Nacho Cano—of Mecano fame—who created this gem, which is masterfully performed by KARINA. Both the music and the lyrics are sublime; I love it because, while it is a sad song—telling the story of losing someone—it also hints at the possibility (or, for me, the certainty) of life after death. Here, I’m sharing the original video as well as a live performance she gave years later.
My second song for today is a less famous—much lesser-known—composition by de KARINA: the unique “UN EXTRAÑO PEZ”, a melody also written by Nacho Cano. I really like the music in this song, which undoubtedly bears the Mecano stamp. You can listen to this rare gem via the link I’m sharing..

And to wrap up this MUSICAL MONDAY, I’m sharing the beautiful ¿A QUIÉN?—a song about heartbreak and a breakup—in which KARINA’s voice shines in all its splendor. It’s worth noting that I sang this song many times during my teenage years. Here is the official video for this gem:

Cuando yo era jóven, usaba el cabello así, y siempre me decían que me parecía a Karina
Karina fue y es una cantante genial, con una calidad vocal estupenda.
