Musical Monday: Equilibrio Vital (Spn / Eng)

Greetings and a happy week to everyone. Today, for the MUSICAL MONDAY initiative—a space hosted by @eugelys where music lovers can share their experiences, memories, and thoughts on this beautiful art form—I am bringing you a musical gem from Venezuelan rock.
I believe the 1980s were a special cosmic moment. I don't recall exactly what beam of energy, special pulse, or planetary alignment occurred during that decade, but I do know that creativity soared to the nth degree, and brilliant bands and artists emerged all over the planet. Quite simply, the music of that decade was STUPENDOUS—possessing undeniable quality, power, variety, and depth—which is why I love, and will always love, the music of the 80s.

One of the Venezuelan bands from that decade that I loved is the underrated EQUILIBRIO VITAL, who enjoyed relative success in Venezuela, specifically within the rock scene. I discovered the band through the radio and their great song EL AUSENTE; later, I became familiar with other tracks of theirs, especially those from their second album, KAZMOR. EL PRISIONERO (my songs for today are from that LP). It is worth noting that I never had the pleasure of seeing them live—none of the rock concerts or festivals I attended happened to feature a performance by them. It remains a "pending task" that I believe will never be fulfilled, as some members of the band are no longer on this plane of existence. With that said, let’s take a look at my three songs for today.

Mis canciones para este Musical Monday / My songs for this Musical Monday
My first song choice for today—fittingly—is the powerful “EL AUSENTE” (The Absent One). It is a progressive rock melody that is truly outstanding, both musically and lyrically; the vocals, especially the female voice, are simply beautiful. The drums and guitar come through with great strength, and the brass and minor percussion blend together exquisitely. There is a truly special duet between the electric guitar and the drums. As I interpret it, the lyrics allude to Jesus Christ—which makes the song especially meaningful to me as a Christian—as He is precisely “EL AUSENTE” (The Absent One) referred to in the title and lyrics. Here is a brief excerpt: “We need only wait a little while for the return of The Absent One, so that His teachings may become present once more. My conscience has revealed the vision I was awaiting, and signs from Heaven herald His arrival. And the seed sown in the fields of humanity will grow with love and hope. And all weeping on Earth will cease, as will every cry of war; there will be no more misery, for The Absent One has arrived, for The Absent One has arrived.” Here is a video featuring some photos of the band and the lyrics to this exceptional and beautiful song.
I’m continuing my MUSICAL MONDAY with the beautiful ballad “MI CANCIÓN” ; after all, it’s often said that the best love songs are created and/or performed by rock singers or bands, and this track is a perfect example. The melody is simply BEAUTIFUL—there’s no other way to describe it—and, naturally, it reminds me of a wonderful time in my life. The musical quality of EQUILIBRIO VITAL shines through here; everything comes together perfectly—from the vocals, guitars, bass, and drums to the minor percusion, the sound is sublime. Here are the audio tracks for this gem: Version or part 1 (the ballad) and version o part 2 (a much more rock-oriented take). By the way, version or part 1 features a guitar solo that is truly out of this world.
To wrap up this MUSICAL MONDAY in honor of the great Venezuelan progressive rock band EQUILIBRIO VITAL, I share with you the beautiful yet powerful “INOCENTES PERDIDOS” (Lost Innocents), a song inspired by children. It inevitably makes me think of all the children who perished in the earthquakes that devastated my country last June; I especially remember those who died due to the corruption, callousness, and wickedness of those who should have cared for and led my people. Consider the wisdom found in this song: “And the children of today's world do not deserve such destruction caused by man and his resentment. I have watched them play and observed how, after a squabble—without even realizing it—they all know how to forgive. Yet, why do they lose that innocence as they grow up? Why do they let themselves be dominated and refuse to reason? Why can’t the world exist with everyone in their proper place? We need only to become aware of what we must seek. We must find the vital balance—within ourselves, with the world around us, and with others. Only then will we achieve the peace I once hoped to find in this world.” Here is the audio of this gem.
