Musical Monday: Aguilar (Spn / Eng)

Greetings as we start a new week—one I hope is filled with happiness for everyone. And speaking of happiness and joy, today I’m sharing three great songs by another Venezuelan singer-songwriter from the 80s, taking this opportunity to join the wonderful MUSICAL MONDAY initiative, a space hosted by @eugelys.
Since the early 1980s, the Venezuelan music scene has been filled with outstanding artists; singers and songwriters across various genres gained significant traction with the public. One such artist is JORGE AGUILAR—better known simply by his surname, AGUILAR—a top-tier singer-songwriter who enriched the Venezuelan pop music of that decade with wonderful songs that endure to this day.
AGUILAR began his musical journey in the 1970s. In 1979, he founded the jazz fusion-rock band ESPERANTO; they produced high-quality music, though they only released two albums. The band was so good that they served as the opening act when Peter Frampton performed in Venezuela. Later, AGUILAR embarked on a solo career—a long-standing musical journey that particularly flourished in the 80s and 90s, yet he remains active to this day. With that said, let’s look at my three song choices for today.
Mis canciones para este Musical Monday / My songs for this Musical Monday
My first song for today is “NO NENA”, a very catchy pop-rock track featuring some great guitar work by AGUILAR and fantastic drums. It was one of his early hits—and well, once you hear it, you’ll understand why. Here is the audio.
Today’s next song is the beautiful ballad “SOY PARA TÍ”, in which AGUILAR duets with American singer and actress PAULETTE DOZIER. It is a truly lovely song, and their voices blend beautifully. It was a huge hit in the 80s, played constantly on AM radio stations back then—and, of course, it was part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. Here is the audio for this gem.
To wrap up this MUSICAL MONDAY—Monday, September 14, 2026—I’m sharing the song “QUIERO SER.” It is a declaration of love set to music, featuring prominent roles for both synthesizers and electric guitar. I remember this song being played endlessly in the early 80s, thanks to its catchy rhythm and lyrics. Here is the audio for this trip down memory lane.
