Introduction

Hi everybody,

I'm @shawnnft. This is my post for the #threetunetuesday playlist which is a contest hosted by @ablaze. Today, I will feature 3 Japanese songs and include my interpretation of the meaning of the lyrics for each song. This is the second part to my series of TTT Japanese songs. The songs I'm sharing today most likely you've never heard before but I hope you enjoy it. To be honest, I just opened my Japanese playlist on Spotify and chose the first 3 Japanese songs randomly played because it's just too hard if I had to choose myself.

I did have a time where I was a total weaboo. So for those that don't know what this is, weaboo is a person that isn't Japanese but obsessed with Japanese culture; this is my definition for it. There was a time when I was in high school where I actually wanted to live in Japan and stuff. It never happened though and thankfully it didn't because I don't think I could handle the work culture in Japan!

#1. ぎゅっと (Gyutto) - もさを (Mosawo)

The first song I chose is Gyutto by Mosawo. From the YouTube description, there is a bit of background about this singer. Mosawo is a singer that likes to sing love songs from the female perspective. Gyutto translates to tightly in English. Anyways this song is about being by the side of someone you love and supporting them and when times are tough then you can hold on to them "tightly" or maybe it means to hug tightly. This is what I think I could be wrong. I love Mosawo's voice along with this simple easy going tune that even if I didn't understand the lyrics I would still love this song. It's just so easy and pleasing to the ear but that's just for me.

You can get the English translated lyrics from here.

#2. 成長痛 (Seichou-tsuu) - サイダーガール (Cidergirl)

The second song I chose is Seichou-tsuu by Cidergirl. The title Seicho-tsuu translates to the pain of growing up in English. Although the English translations are in the video, I still find this song a bit hard to interpret what it wants to convey to the listeners. I believe the song is trying to tell us that when we're growing up we do go through hard times and sometimes we just need to tell somebody but can't; this could be something like depression. To back up this claim, one of the lyrics says "can someone please say "it hurts" on my behalf". I think everyone has struggles on their way towards adulthood and that's what the song is trying to convey to us.

There are English subs in the video!

#3. Rising Hope - LiSA

Finally, the last song I chose is Rising Hope by LiSA. This is actually the opening song for an anime called Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei. LiSA is my favorite female Japanese singer. She does have a lot of famous songs from animes. I think you might recognize her song Gurunge which is from the anime called Demon Slayer which I think a lot of people have watched if they are an anime lover. This song is hard to interpret but for me it's about being trapped and not knowing the answer to something. Despite all the problems and being trapped is ok, because as long as you're alive and well then there's still hope. I believe the song is saying that we can solve any problem as long as we don't give up. I think that's how the title Rising Hope came to be; I could be wrong though.

If you're interested in the English translation of the lyrics, you can get it from here.

Sadly I was unable to watch the first (it was geo-restricted), but the last two were great fun! Cidergirl has a really fun sound, and actually sounds like something the Barenaked Ladies would do. Really fun!
