'Cause I've Got Everything I Need

Christmas is coming in a few days. In the whole month of December, there has been Christmas songs playing everywhere especially at malls. A lot of these songs do give the Christmas spirit vibes but I'm not choosing any of these songs to capture the essence of Christmas. There's one song that captures the essence of Christmas for me and the song is called Christmas List by Anson Seabra. For those that don't know, Anson Seabra is an American artist that sings pop songs mostly. Do check out his other songs; they are amazing!

Anyways Christmas List is a low-key song that isn't actually played on the typical Christmas playlist at a mall. To be honest, there were a lot of songs to choose from but I wanted to choose a less popular Christmas song since there will be others sharing their Christmas songs.

For real though, this song is not the most energetic song but it has a great message. Now please listen to the song before continuing to read the rest of my blog. This is so it can help you understand the reasoning behind my thoughts.

I like the song because it's soft, simple yet meaningful. I want to go through some of the lyrics. Let's take a look at the first verse which I have quoted below.

There's an angel in the snow
She's knocking at my door
She's keeping my heart warm tonight
And there's a table set for two
A cozy little room
A window with a view of white
Then you ask me what I want this year
Well I already know

This verse is obviously about a romantic partner that is female. The guy is obviously in love with her since he mentions her being an angel and that she's keeping his heart warm. Then at the end of the verse, the girl is asking the guy what he wants for Christmas this year but he tells her he already knows. How does he know, well we find this out in the chorus below.

I tried to make my Christmas list
But I don't want a single gift
'Cause I've got everything I need
So I won't ask for anything
No shiny toys or fancy things
'Cause I've got everything I need
With you here next to me

In the chorus, we find out that, the guy already tried to make a list and after thinking what he wanted he realized that he doesn't really need anything. Just being able to spend time with his loved one is everything he needs. Maybe it's just me but I find the chorus to be very catchy.

As you can see, based on the lyrics the message of the song is very clear. Christmas isn't about getting gifts or asking for fancy things. It's about spending time with your loved ones. This song is more focused on the romantic aspect but if we look at the bigger picture, this can be applied to family & friends as well. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with giving or receiving gifts. That's part of the formality for some people that celebrate Christmas. I'm just emphasizing that it's more about spending time with family, friends etc.

This leads me to the title of my post 'Cause I've Got Everything I Need. This is one of the lyrics of the song that really resonated with me. There's many cases where we always want "more" and that's normal since it's human nature in a sense. I want more money, I want more this I want more that. In reality though, I can't speak on behalf of everybody but for me I feel I do have everything I need. I was lucky enough to be born healthy without any diseases or problems. I have friends and family and I have the basic necessities of life such as food and shelter.
